Starting threads in Tech section.....

In case you didn't know, only staff (mods, regional leaders, etc) can start or post in threads in the Tech section. Those of us who aren't staff are read only. Why start a "discussion" someplace where only a select few can "discuss" it? Don't expect many replies.

I ran into this last week and asked Trip about why was unable to post in the tech section. He told me it's because I am an "enthusiast". I guess because I ride a Harley I couldn't possibly have anything to offer in the technical section.

I'm not an "enthusiast" and I can't post there, either. When they start a thread there, it kind of limits the possible responses. Their loss, I guess.

From my understanding there are four tech sections. 3 of the 4 are available for anyone and 1 of them the " Instructions, Tutorials, Part Info, Recal Info, etc" is the only one that can't be contributed to by everyone.

I've been on forums for a long time in there is just as much crap as there is facts. I can appreciate the desire to have a section of information of proven facts and tutorials.

I was trying to respond to a thread in the Periodic Maintenance section and it wouldn't let me, thus prompting my inquiry to the Grand Poobah.

"Instructions, Tutorials, etc" is the one I'm referring to. Not so much "proven facts and tutorials" as a question in the above thread. Personally, I don't care. I was just letting others know in case they wondered why they weren't getting many responses.

Don't feel bad Scott. You have to expect a little discrimination being a Harley rider on a Kawasaki forum.
If you have someting you want to post in that section just PM me your responses and I will post them for you.

Just bustin your balls buddy, don't get upset.

Now that i know we are the only ones who can post there I guess i could have made a better choice, Thanks for the heads up Chris.
I did get my answer I guess. UIdf you were going to post in that thread with more info i would appreciate a PM.

Further to this if everyone could comment and add new posts these reference sections would soon be lost somewhere in past pages.

The reason its set up like that is so you can find part numbers, instructions, and other info without going through many posts that are not necessary to read. Its there only for reference only.
There is a lot of info there, on commonly asked questions. Its all straight to the point, and made easy to find.

I know WHY it was set up that way and I don't disagree with that. That wasn't the point of this thread.

Monkey, it sure doesn't seem like you 'agree' with it or 'understand' why it's like that, with comments like these:

Quote:
Why start a "discussion" someplace where only a select few can "discuss" it? Don't expect many replies.

But yea, like already mentioned, I guess it's more for popular articles that can be found fast and easily, where there's no need for discussion. It's no different than the portion of a website where the webmaster publishes articles he wrote.. our's just happens to be located within our forum. It's been like that since day 1 from what I understand, long before I came along.

I totally agree with the tech reference section only by administrators. When I go to this section to find part #'s or how to do stuff, I really don't want to go thru a lot of blah blah blah stuff along with thread hijacking. So thanks for keeping it this way.
When I want to post something mechanical, electrical etc., then I usually post it in the 15/1600 section and this is where comments can be made. If someone want to get a hold of me about such and such..then pm me...Bdog
