No riding this summer?!

Well got the bad news the other day. I fell at work back in february and have been off work ever since with a bad shoulder.
After 5 weeks the doc finally did an MRi and I have a torn rotator cuff and split biceps tendon. Overall pain is managable unless I try to lift my arm or pick up more than 5 lbs, then it hurts like crazy.
Anyway doc said I need surgery so finally and answer and a fix!! But NO!!!! Work comp has stepped in and said a second opinion is needed. So Mondat I had a second opinion and that new doc said surgery and will be down for minimum of 6 wks and maybe up to 4 months!! When I asked him about riding he said maybe this fall depending on how much work he needs to do, but wont know for sure until he is in there.
So again I am waiting for work comp to give the go ahead and authorize the surgery.
I just wish this would get done and overwith so I can get on the NAD and ride!!! I am hating work comp right now!!
Ok Ill stop venting now.

Bummer! I hope things go better than expected and you can get back to riding sooner than anticipated.

You can vent here until you run out of air.....that is something to vent about. I know your pain having a torn cuff for 25 years. I refused the surgery then because of the poor success in shoulder surgeries back then. The shoulder is doing exactly what the doc said it would when I refused. I'm getting calcium buildup which will have to be removed. Just as well let them repair the tear while removing the calcium. I'll try to schedule mine for November so I'll have a few months to heal up. Well, maybe November of next year. Take care and don't rush anything. They've come a long way with the surgeries since my injury. No more 8" long open surgery scars. They can do just about any repairs orthoscopically now. Much less invasive and much quicker recovery. Good luck.

No riding this summer?!

Thanks guys for all the support. I know I need to take it slow and let it heal, and thats my plan. No matter how tempting the Nomad is everytime I walk out into the garage.....
I just wish they would get the ball rolling and schedule the surgery so i can get the healing part going. Just wish they would stop dragging their feet. On top of the no riding part, my bosses are begining to loose paitience with the whole issue. Oh well, i did this while at work so I am at the mercy of workers comp.

I had the same thing but mine was repaired with a lot of therapy rather than an operation. The pain is unbeleivable at times but after a couple months of therapy it started to get better and then things started to heal quicker. With the operation you may be able to ride within a couple months, since you dont really have to lift your arm that high on the bike.

I feel for ya man. Shoulder surgery is exquisitely painful. Enjoy your frustration while you can. Stock up on drugs and lots of movies, motorcycle magazines and other reading material.

Sorry man. This sux.

I tore mine on a weight bench being overzealous while bench pressing. I had just started my present job and was building my home giving me 2 more excuses not to get it fixed. A co-worker rides with me so my lunch box goes on the back seat. I can no longer reach back between my bucket seats to put the box back there or to retrieve it. I have to get out, walk around the truck and open the back door to put it there or take it out. Feels like somebody is sticking a knife in the front of my shoulder when I reach back a few degrees past parallel of my chest. I'm fortunate that I can still reach up pretty good. Just can't reach back very far or bench more than 150 pounds now. I know your pain. I hope they don't put you off too long because it doesn't get any better depending on the severity of the tear. Sometimes therapy and medication can do the trick. I hope this is your case. Take care.

Sorry to hear about your problem Nubbs. Did you see the video of the blind man that bought a bike and then had his wife to pull him on his bike while the bike was on a trailer. You could always give that a try.

My right shoulder doesn't hurt to lift it but when I start to bring it down it hurts like hell. I already had surgery on my left back in 2008, I sure hope I don't have to have it on my right.

Once again, it sure does suck that you are having the problem.
