Vaquero engine paint flaking

I'm looking at buying a 2013 Vaquero with 25000 kms(15500 miles). Bike is candy orange and has a few blemishes but overall looks really nice except for the flat black paint around the engine and transmission. Most noticeable on the left side in the area behind the oil fill cap. Their are a few spots with the bare aluminum where the paint has flaked off. If you rub your finger over it the white residue from the corroded aluminum comes off on your fingers. The forks have some pitting and rust as well. Is this common on the Vaquero or has this bike been exposed too a lot of road salt? Roads are salted here in the winter but most do not ride until spring rain has cleaned the roads off of it.

I would say it's not normal. Sounds like it has been exposed to salt or something similar. And not washed off. May been stored outside, or in a poor environment.

Hello,
If it's Candy Orange it is a 2014. My Candy Orange 2014 has no paint issues on the engine but my bike is in Florida so I don't have the salt issues here.

The engine paint starts to flake just before it blows..

Sounds like a big discount to me. not something I have heard about like = ever. You have to decide if you can live with it or paint it. Look closely there may be other clues to how this bike was cared for.
Maybe pass on it ??

It is strange for the year and mileage. The seller is firm on the price. I don't think I can that price and look past it. I should have taken photos of it.

Its easy enough to paint your engine, if thats just the sticking point for you....
About $100 and a long weekend, she'd look good!
