hoping you would show with a new 1700 triumph as i would
really like to see one in action.you might consider the northwest
rally in kalispel,mt.in august.it will be a beautifull area to ride in.

Fellas....
What a difference a day makes.... :(. Yesterday.... I was sitting fat and sassy and ready for a great run to Cortez. Today....my wife got laid off from her job of three years and most of my summer plans are very near the edge of the toilet.... :'(. All the employees in her company got an email late yesterday informing them of immediate impending layoffs. Today her boss gave her the bad news.

This comes at a rotten time (is there ever a good time?), because for the first time in years we were really kind of prospering despite the bad economy. As a two income family with one dependent who is mostly not home, we have been able to save a few extra $$ above and beyond what we usually can. It was making it easy to tool around and be the adventurer that I am.

I am fearful now that most of the extra money we have managed to save will be toast before she can get back to work....and the drill will start all over again.... ::). Bottom line is that her income was essentially the discretionary portion of our cash flow. With that now out of the equation....it would be irresponsible of me to take an extra vacation that could instead make a house payment.

So for now.....it looks like I am not going to be able to attend the SW Rally as I had planned. The money I do have squirreled away for the trip I will save for the NW Rally in Kalispell in August. I am not going to cancel any reservations just yet, however. I will wait until the last couple days before the rally to do that just in case a miracle happens and she finds something quickly. To say I am bummed is as understatement, but there will always be more rallies. For now, my priorities have taken on a whole new order of business....and the leisure plans are usually the first casualty.... :-/. I will miss not seeing and riding with you guys, but that just means you will have to ride to Montana in August to buy me a shot of tequila or three... !

Have fun guys (although it won't really be a party without me) and you'll be the first to know if things change for the better!

Kris, Major bummer, all the way around. Hope you can make it after all but sounds like you have your priorities right. Then again, bring her with you and look for jobs along the way (best I can come up with.)

Damn Kris. Really sad to hear that but understand. Family comes first. Hopefully she can find something quickly. Oh, by the way, ship the tequilla to me. I'll make sure it gets there safe and sound. ;)

I think I am going to be able to pull this off after all. Not 100% yet....but really leaning toward making the trip. The wife got all of her severance, unused PTO and eveything else coming to her. On top of that....she has a really good lead on a position that she will most likely interview for next week. Like always...it's not what you know....but WHO you know.... ;). Heck, if she does get right back to work....we will come out ahead in this deal with her cash payout.... . That would be a nice bonus... !

Anyways....with the cash I have already stockpiled for the trip, we are both thinking I could make the run with little consequence to our situation.....soooooooo.....at this point....I can almost hear it now.....

"Get your motor runnin'......
Head out on the highway.....
Lookin' for adventure.....
and whatever comes my way....."



It's still a little touch and go.....but looking more promising by the minute! I'll keep you posted!
