So that's what a Spyder looks like without the "Tupperware". . . Glad no one was hurt.

Thats too bad, a few years ago at a VROC rally a Nomad caught fire at the gas pumps. It can happen to the best of them.
In the early 70's I had a snowmobile catch fire and burn out on the lake.

Dang!!! That sucks! Good thing he pulled over when he did. That would've made for a really hot butt if they still would've been riding.

That would have been Blondy's nomad.

Kind of timely. I'm heading out on an 10 day ride through Utah in a couple of weeks and last week I bought a small 1lb. fire extinguisher to carry in the trunk on my Nomad. I'm not sure how effective a 1lb one would be, but I think that there can't be a more helpless feeling than standing on the side of the road and watching your bike (or someone else's) burning to the ground.

That was a good idea I never thought about carrying a fire extinguisher.

The older Spyder's had a canister on the engine and exhaust that would get red-hot. Eventually hoses would melt and pure-gas would drip onto the canister and ignite.

Hundreds of the '08's burned completely because of this. I am surprised that anyone would still have one on the road without having the recall taken care of. I know BRP made a good effort to contact owners of these through previous owners, dealers, and the states' DMV offices. Apparently this guy slipped through the cracks and no one told him he was riding a time-bomb.
