belt adjustment 1700

is 10lb pull the correct adjustment for the drive belt

Drive Belt Deflection (with 45 N, 4.6 kgf, 10 lb force) Standard: 3.0 ∼ 4.5 mm (0.12 ∼ 0.18 in.) Drive Belt Deflection (with 45 N, 4.5 kgf, 10 lb force, when installing new belt or engine remounted) Standard: 3.0 mm (0.12 in.)
If the deflection is out of the specification, adjust it.

That's about right, but be aware that you are better off having it a touch on the loose side than too tight. There are endless topics about factory spec's being too tight.......that's how I run mine anyways.

3.0 - 4.5 mm is just too tight. I had severe whining at 5 mm. At 10 mm it is doing just fine. A number of owners have reported front pulley bearing damaged by running at less that 5 mm. Others have had swing arm or rear wheel bearings damaged running that tight.

+1... OEM spec is well documented as too tight. It cost my bike two belts and a set of pulleys before it had 23k km's on the clock. I run the new (third) belt at 10mm / 10lb's, and have had no further problems.
