Hello all,
Just purchased a 99 Nomad with 30,000 mi on it. really like the look and the bikes lines. unfortunatly it's still to cold to find what she will do. this is my 3rd crusier, started on a Suzuki LC 1500 back in 2000, sold it and bought a Yamaha Roadstar Silverado, Really liked that bike. But due to the economy, well you know. anyway scrounged up the funds to get back on 2 up.

Anything critical I should be made aware of about the 99? I've heard rumblings of a plastic oil gear. Is it someting I need to get addressed ASAP?

Anyway any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

Ray

Welcome from Colorado!
Yes, you definitely need to find out if the POG has been replaced. Otherwise it's a ticking time bomb. If you can't confirm from the previous owner, you'll need to pull the right side cover and do a visual inspection yourself. It's the only design flaw in an otherwise awesome bike.
Oh...red/red or green/green?

....Welcome to Kawanow......Congrats on your new to you ride. As has been mentioned, the POG (plastic oil pump gear) is the one thing you wantto be concerned about. Makaw have repaired many over the years but only after it fails. There is an aftermarket fix for it as well. Ask the PO if it has been done. Enjoy yourself here. Many good people and lots of knowledge here.. :)
Mike

...oh yea, where are you located????

Welcome to the Nomad Nation from the (unofficial) Grand Canyon State!

Yep, the plastic oil gear in the 99 Nomad is something that needs to be addressed. There is a good chance yours has already been replaced, a dealer should be able to check your VIN # and see if the work has been done.

Welcome from the Great White North. I just looked out the window and yeah we got another 2 inches of the white stuff last night.

Congrats on getting back on 2 wheels. Gotta love it. :)

Another welcome from N. Georgia. Like CJ said, a dealer should be able to look up the oil gear info from the VIN number.
