This didn't end well...

Motorcyclist killed on Loop 101

by Associated Press (April 25th, 2012 @ 7:05am)

PHOENIX -- Authorities are trying to find the drivers of a semi-truck and a car that hit and killed a motorcyclist who had crashed in the middle of a Phoenix-area freeway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the motorcycle was entering the southbound Loop 101 freeway at Northern Avenue in Glendale late Tuesday when the rider lost control.

The rider was thrown off the motorcycle and ended up in the middle lane of the freeway. That's when a semi-truck hit the rider, but didn't stop.

Witnesses told the highway patrol that a teal-colored car went around slowed traffic and hit the rider again. That driver also didn't stop.

The unidentified rider died at the scene.

You don't drive a semi-truck or a teal-colored car do you?

Not that I know of. I haven't seen any follow up stories on it.

What happened to the cameras? Maybe cameras aren't on 101...

I'm pretty sure there are traffic cameras in that area, if so DPS would have checked them.

You would think that would be their first source of info if they had cameras; and the image is clear enough.

When I went down on my bike, one of the first thing that went through my mind was other cars, where they were, and if they were going to hit me.

Fortunately that road wasn't a freeway...

Sh!t happens fast on a motorcycle... need to always expect the worst...

Yep, Riding here in Tucson requires your thumb on the horn button at all times and your head on a swivel. My headlight modulator quit on me, so I run the high beam in daylight hours. Strobing brake light helps too. An always assume the guys making u-turns are NOT going to yield to your right turn.
