Since this is Off-Nomad Section, Can I Talk Truck?

This is kinda related to our bikes....we have been towing our trailer with two bikes with an older Ford Explorer (the XLT with V8). It was hard on the poor truck, though....so we finally got a full size truck! She's a used 2001 Ford F150 Lariat Super Crew (with the Triton V8) with only 50,000 miles. She was well taken care of and still shines like a new penny!!!! She's loaded with options, but what makes me giggle right now, is having to step on the floorboard and use the handle to pull myself up into the truck, and I'm 5'7"!!!! ;)

I hope this will be a good truck....anybody else own one? Any tips on care and maintenance so she'll at least last until the loan is paid off?! LOL

Chaz and I used to make fun of people when we passed their vehicles and people were watching movies in the back seat....until now!

That is the body style super crew that I like the best. You ought to get plenty more miles out of that one, as we have 138K on Frances '00 Expedition. But waht do I know, I'm still driving a 92 Ford supercab. She may not "shine like a new penny" any more, but having been paid off for nearly 13 years makes her a special kind of nice.

The only issue I've seen is the spark plugs.. they are a two piece plug that can sometimes separate and break off in the head when trying to change the plugs. Then you have to get a special tool to remove the remaining piece and if that doesn't work, it's remove the cylinder head time.

Have a reputable dealer do it if you are going to change plugs.

My dad has an 01 and loves it. They are a very nice unit. Only negative I have with it is the placement of the rearview mirror. It is too low on the windshield. I feel like it is in the center of the windshield and is in the way of my field of view.

I have to give up my dreams of getting my own Nomad for now, but I think the trade off is worth it ;)

Although....I hadn't paid too much attention to the mirror placement...but now that you mentioned it, I'll probably become bothered by it too!!! You know how powerful the mind can be!!! ;)

Don't worry about it too much. Just do the mainentence when it should and it will take care of you. Like LW, I have a 93 Ford with 210,000 on it. Doesn't shine but it gets the job done. However, the cancer is getting bad and may have to look at replacing sometime.

McDaddy, I have a 2007 F-150. Do they have 2 piece plugs as well?
Cheri-Ann, nice truck. You picked a Ford, good for you. They didn't take the bail out. That was enough for me to go to a ford dealer.

I have a '03 F-150 Super Crew that my loving wife bought me back in '02. It has 127K on it and runs well. Only had one issue with it, fuel pump, other than that and the stupid spark plugs, it is great. You will really like the truck.

Nice looking truck. My last Ford was a 1997 F150 and I didn't have any trouble with it.It had 115,000 miles on it when I traded it in and I didn't even change the plugs until 100,000 miles.
This what I'm driving now,but I'll be getting a F250 or F350 next year.
