Before I get to it, is the seal the part the service manual refers to as the "spacer" (pn 92026A Spacer, Clutch Release)?

In this illustration it is part #92049 which is for a 1500 a 1600 carries a different number.

I should have mentioned, mine is a 1600 (2007) - so would it be the 92049 here: http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID...4/Group/Clutch and I will need to remove the slave cylinder piston to get to it?

No. That's not it. You take off the left side cover and locate the clutch slave cylinder. Remove the 3 bolts holding it on and move it to the side. You will see a shaft sticking out where the slave cylinder was. Follow that shaft inward, toward the crankcase. where the shaft enters the crankcase, there should be a small seal. That's the one we're talking about.

It is not internal to, nor is it attached to the slave cylinder. I'll be darned if I can find it on the parts diagrams. The seal isn't generally bad, it comes loose and slides along the shaft. It just needs to be glued back into place with Hi-Tack Gasket Adhesive.

If I can find the correct part #, I'll post it.

Update: MT has it right. It's #92049 in THIS diagram:

I picked up a fresh tube of Hi-Tack Gasket Adhesive and I will get the cover off tonight. I think CJ's description is pretty clear.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PUSH THE SEAL TOO FAR INTO THE CAVITY! If it falls through on the other side, it's nearly impossible to retrieve.

Oil leak on left side

Before taking everything apart, but sure to check the bolt shown in the "clutch" diagram from the site above. No number on it , but it is the one at the very bottom of the ref. clutch master cylinder in the diagram. I expected to need to change the seal, but that is where mine leaked. Tightened it gently, and no more problem on mine.

The seal had come loose. I cleaned out the area and the seal, applied some high tack gasket adhesive and seated in gently back into the opening, but not too far. I am optimistic that this will fix me up, judging by what oil there was on the bottom of the slave cylinder and inside the side cover. MT and CJ have the correct part pictured, which is pretty obvious when you get there. Thanks much, I'll report bacl later this week about the oil drip's future behavior.

See, a simple fix to a common problem. Let the adhesive set on the seal and you should be golden.

Oil leak on left side

Thanks CJ, your description filled in a large gap in the service manual. I got my bike out on the road today, rode it to work, parked it, checked back later and the parking lot is oil drip free! This looks good - thanks much!

400 miles later, still dry!

Oil leak on left side

Just wanted to let you know, this thread was really helpful. I ride a 1500 classic which has the same transmission as the nomad. The seal slipped off on mine and I didn't know what to do. Thank you.

Oil leak on left side

"...I've never had to do anything to mine in the 3 years I've owned it and have never looked to see what fluid it uses for the clutch hydrolics..."

I'm not trying to be anything other than helpful... but I do suggest that that any clutch and or brake fluid that has not been changed in the last three years be changed as soon as possible. This stuff is hydroscopic and the last thing anyone wants in their hydraulic systems is water. Not a good thing, folks!

Good morning, I have read thu this thread. I have the leak mentioned above. I also have the Clymer manual that is moderately helpful. Here are the photos of what I think is the clutch slave cylinder.
The bolt on the bottom had oil on it. This is the Slave Cylinder?

I tried to gently tighten the bolt on the bottom, but it is tight. Do I assume correctly that you pull the three bolts to see if the seal under is leaking?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts

So I pulled the three bolts (not very patient I know) the cylinder was full of oil, and, I can see the the seal is not as good as it should be. Do you take the shaft out, to repair the seal?

Remove the clutch slave cylinder. The seal is behind it on the push rod when it goes in the engine.
