Commander III

Just installed a new commander III tire on my 1500 nomad. Replaced a dunlop elite 4 that lasted 10k miles. Anyone else running a commander III?

I have them front and back on my 1300 V Star. There are extremely slick when they are new but once they are scrubbed in they handle great, better than the Commander II's they replaced.

I really would appreciate a report on the III's for wet road tar snake handling. Georgia loves the tar for filling cracks in asphalt and I know the Commander II"s handled like being on ice when I was riding North Georgia for 4 days in rain.

The Commander III handled the tar snakes well. I cant comment on the wet weather handling because I dont ride in the rain unless I get caught in it. There are 2 types of Commander III, Cruiser and Touring. The Cruiser tire is supposed to be better in the wet but I dont think they make one in the rear tire size you might be looking for.

Went to Michelin site and entered 06 1600 vulcan and they said no fitment. So, I guess you are on your own from a legal stand point if a tire goes south on you. When I wrote Michelin a year or so ago re Comm. 2 rear they said they don't offer anything for Nomad. And, yet, the tire "experts" at shops all over put C2's on rear all the time.

180/65 works fine on an 1600 Nomad or a Voyager.

I am assuming because its not the factory size tire, they won't legally say it fits.

180/65/16 in the Metzler 888 is the size I run on my Voyager.
