I am having the same problem that TC is having. I only have smileys at the bottom of the box with none on the side. When I click on one such as the exclamation mark you will see it ends up at the title line.

Go to User CP > Edit Options > scroll down to Miscellaneous Options

In Message Edit Interface, select "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing", then Save Changes.

Sometimes I piss people off 'cause they don't know when I am joking around. ;-)

go to your user control panel. go down to edit options. go clear to the bottom and there is a box for edit options. if you pick Standard you get smiles and some other stuff.
