Just be very careful you don't warp or bend the brake rotor doing it that way. That part isn't cheap to replace.

I have decided that my next rear tire will be a car tire. I have a brand new Avon Cobra on there now, so when it wears out, I will be going to the darkside.

So what is the consensus? What is the optimum size that will minimize speedo error?

I am on the fence on the car tire, but am leaning that way. What is the speed rating should the tire be as well. I am looking for a 195/60-16 tire, but want to make sure I price out the correct speed rating as well....

I am not sure you can correct speedo error by going to a ct.... You improve everything else though like braking, take off and cornering.

It might be some people won't like the more sluggish feel, but to me i prefer under steer rather than over steer..

I feel more stable holding the bike down in a corner than having it be neutral feeling in a corner. There is a slight bit of feel to get used to which i diid quickly.

I never ever weigh over 155 pounds, and varry to as low, usually in summer heat 145 pounds.

I have had a broken neck, torn rotor cuffs 3 times, 14 broken ribs, and my left side collar bone is 1.5 inches shorter than the other.

So I figure if I can do this and prefer it to a mc rear many others will too. I have damaged other parts of me but they are not parts I use for steering.

The first reason I went to a ct was because i was sick of buying a new rear tire at 7,000 miles or near that.

I like my Dunlop SP 5000 in 195/60/R 16 very well... I can only assume that it will take me some years to need another rear tire, perhaps 20,000+ miles and more.

I had good luck with Dunlop MC tires on my old yammi 850. That bike needs new tires now but for sun cracks and not wear.. The ft tire on that bike has 24,000 mi, and the rea has 20,000, since when they were both at 4,000 I ran over something big enough to chop a 3/8" hole in the rear...

Scott,

It seems that the speedo error on most Nomads with the stock Bridgestone 170/70-16 tire is right at 10% The diameter of the stock tire is 25.3" so a tire diameter of 27.83" would be needed to correct for 10%.

The Yokohama E102 195/80-16 tire has a diameter of 28". This size tire requires cutting a notch in the swingarm brace at the front right side.

I don't think anyone is making this size tire anymore so it's a moot point.

The Dunlop SP Sport in 195/60-16 has a diameter of 25.2" so won't result in any correction.

The Continental ContiProContact in 205/65-16 has a diameter of 26.5" and will make about a 5% correction.

The Continental Vanco-8 185/75-16 has a diameter of 26.9" and will make a correction of just over 6%.

The GoodYear Eagle LS-2 in 205/70-16 has a diameter of 27.3" and will correct to 7.9%. This is probably the closest you can find to correcting the speedo.

IMO anything in 205 is a tad too big, and very close to the shaft tube...

IMO, Also wouldn't go any wider than 195! My next one, WILL be that, like MacMac said 205 is too close!

Mine is 195/65 16. It did seem to correct speedo error to near spot on.

Hey Mac, I was looking at trying out the Dunlop SP 5000, I read somewhere that without the direction tread it may cause some "wandering". Given that you actually have the tire, you still happy with it. I can get one for around $200 Canadian so am leaning that way with the costs of MC tires and the basically horrible mileage you get out of them.

Delivered today Continental 185/75/16

Along with a slight crown to the tire which will be more pronounced when pulled in by the rim, those groves are a half inch deep!!
