Spot tracker...

I used my Spot Tracker for the first time on this trip to Missouri -- since I was riding alone and wanted my wife to be able to track my progress if she wanted to.

I am not patient with instructions; thus I thought their instructions were lousy; however one would have to read them to have a qualified opinion.

I was able to finally figure it out before the trip and try it.

Pushed the "check/in" button at the end of the trip and it sent the message to my wife's phone (and email). I logged-in their site and checked to see if it indeed tracked it all the way -- and sure enough it did. (We don't need no stinkin' instructions!)

I bought this because occasionally I ride by myself. I read an article someone posted on here last year about a guy who crashed and was found days later in a ditch (alive). That made me think about the times I take off without anyone knowing where I am going (because I don't always either). If something were to happen the tracker is a great source to find out.

Not for everyone, but I do know a few members here have them. I'll be making a habit of using mine more now.

Ride safe!

I have been thinking about a SPOT Tracker also. Lots of places that could "dissapear" you around here and the desert would eat you long before you were ever found.

Stan thanks for putting that thought in my head before the rally as I cross Highway 70 in the middle of freeking nowhere!!!

I have one but have never set it up. Why? Just haven't gone on any long trips. Probably will set it up for this year.

That's 100% true.

...there's a lot of holes in the desert, and there's a lot of "problems" buried in those holes.

I know, not what you meant, but it was a good place for a Joe Pesci quote.

I have used mine extensively for about 3 or 4 years now. Although I haven't had to utilize the 911 function, it actually has been of help on a couple trips where things went south. It also gives my better half some sense of ease know where I am and that I'm ok.

I have mine set up on the SPOT page and another place called Spotwalla. When I do some of my IBA rides or long rides, I give the web page address to my friends and family so they can follow my trip on their computers. My wife gets the email/text messages.

Wouldn't a long leash do the same and be cheaper?

Sorry Greg, I couldn't help myself.

Better get a SPOT. Then of course you need someone who cares enough about you to check to see if you're OK.

Okay... now that wins the best "laugh post" for the day!

It was you Stan and Coacha that has these things and liked them; which is why I bought mine. I like it a lot. It will serve its purpose for my needs -- however I hope it is the biggest waste of money -- ever!

Don't know about the newest version they make. I was told NOT to get that version (which works with your smart-phone's service); but rather to get the one I have because it works off satellites -- not cell-phone coverage. A big difference. Someone can correct me if I am wrong...

That's why I don't worry about that kind of stuff. The only one who would know is my cat.

The version 1 or 2 are better than the Find Me SPOT thing. I have heard nothing but bad things about it. I still have a SPOT 1, which is much bulkier but works fine.

They work great to keep an eye on a cheating spouse too.
