Drowning on a motorcycle?
This is a Colorado story from yesterday.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The search for a 60-year-old man who may have been swept away in the Poudre River after crashing the motorcycle into a guard rail was called off Wednesday night. “A witness reported seeing the accident and that he saw a rider go under a guard rail and into the Poudre River,” said Eloise Campanella, spokesperson for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. The witness, who has not been identified, searched the river and called 911 when he was unable to locate the body. The dive team was called out and was able to locate the motorcycle but not the rider. The sheriff’s office made contact with the registered owner who said his father, who was visiting from out-of-state, borrowed the motorcycle early that morning and never returned. “It is yet to be determined if the search will continue (Thursday),” Campanella said. She said the high flow of the river made searching dangerous. Drowning on a motorcycle?
There are a couple of those "Motorcycles use extreme caution" signs on that stretch, but not all that challenging though. To bad to hear about this guy in any event.

If it turns out to be the worst-case scenario... I'll bet just shortly before he was smiling and having the time of his life. Sorry if that sounds bad. I meant it in the most positive way.

Drowning on a motorcycle?
They still haven't found the body, the river is running really fast.
It's too bad that the kid will have to deal with some stress of being the one who loaned Pops the bike, and now he's dead. I'd hate that, even though it's not really the kids fault at all. I posted just because I have never thought of drowning being a risk of riding a motorcycle. I've ridden by many rivers without a thought of "what if I end up in there?" It won't change anything for me, just an interesting way to die on a motorcycle. |

Drowning on a motorcycle?
Dan,
If it is the stretch of road I think it is, this is not the first time for this to happen.

A little wide or late on curve and its whitewater body surfing time. Surprised you hadn't thought about that Dan. :)

Drowning on a motorcycle?
The only time it ever crossed my mind was when I was riding over a grated bridge. Handling the bike was a challenge, and I had a brief momentary thought of plunging over the side. I laughed it off once I crossed.

I'm glad they recovered the body. Sometimes it can be months or maybe never. Very difficult on the families.
