Removing Silencers

Hey BD and all. There was a comment / post about how the silencer 'worked' seeing that it is a tube in the muffler housing.
I looked in it and there were holes which absorb some of the noise waves along with the Doppler Effect reduction. So there is 2 things the silencer does to help reduce noise.
My sons 1996 Kawasaki KX 250 has rebuildable silencer. ( I know, its a two stroke, but read on.) We take it apart and clean/repack it often. I make sure all the little holes are clean and not plugged up. WHen they are covered with carbon, it is a noisy bike. Make sure all the holes are open, it gets quiet!
So look in the silencer and the holes are another thing that makes it quiet.

rfl, I can see that. This would explain why the silencer is fatter than the tube through the middle. And the expanding exhaust gases in the open chamber cause the sound to go deeper and resonate. All I know for sure is that it really sounds good.

Glad you like the results Idaho. I haven't heard a negative comment on the sound. It's cool because you get the bass without the bark that some like me find a little offensive at times.

Those two additional plates with small holes in them actually raise the tone some by design. A volume of air passing through smaller holes raised the tone just as a smaller flute has a higher pitch. some have drilled through those plates, there are two on each side and said it sounds even better! I'm not there yet! I like the sound now and don't think I want it louder or deeper? Maybe later...I'll let someone else take the risk!!! LOL
