Have any suggestions?

Hey fellow Nomad..ers!

My husband and I are trying to work out how to get 3 people to SD on one bike in June. The options we've come up with so far are to buy a sidecar for my son to ride in, or for me to find a solo rider who will carry me if I pay for half the gas. I haven't seen too many riders from Virginia Beach, VA, though. My soon to be 13 year old really wants to go on the trip...but so does his mom! ;) Chainsaw suggested that I post this reply I wrote to him on the forum yesterday.

I could use some suggestions! ::)

The sidecar would obviously have to be custom; which means big bucks; and a friend of mine found out how difficult it is to find someone that knows how to put one on. I guess; according to his experience; you don't just bolt one on. It has to be perfectly aligned to the bike otherwise you will experience "pulling" just like in a car out of alignment -- only with a bike it is far more difficult to manage without power steering. My friend is a very big guy and it wore him out to ride it too far. He has had several "supposed-experts" look at it and none of them can seem to get it perfect. It is almost impossible to find a Harley dealer around nothern Illinois that even mess with putting one on an HD -- even an HD built one. They say it takes special training and they don't want the liability. So... forget the sidecar idea is my advice.

Thanks for the input. I know one of the riders, but that person isn't a solo rider. I noticed one rider in Fredericksburg which is just 30 minutes from my father's place in the country. The tricky part will be finding a solo rider out of the bunch. :) At any rate, I will contact as many of the locals as I can. I will find a way for us to get to Custer!

I will definitely take that advice to heart. It sounds as if it would be more trouble than its worth. Thanks!

Sounds tome like you got about 10 months to learn how to ride and get a second bike.
