Long November Ride
What's the weather usually like going from Mississippi to Las Vegas in November (on a motorcycle)? Our 30th anniversary is coming in November and my wife wants to take a long ride somewhere. She kind of wants to go to Las Vegas. I'm not much on freezing to death while riding so was just curious. Maybe Key West or Mexico would be a better choice. (Why couldn't we have been married in the summer so we would have better riding weather? :-/)

Long November Ride
Mapquest shows it going across the middle of Texas which is about 24 1/2 hours and over 1600 miles. The distance doesn't bother me just the weather and if there are enough gas stations.

Long November Ride
Hey Zoom, not a bad idea at all. I got married in Vegas in November, and have been several times. It's usually a pretty nice place to be in November. Not so hot as summertime. Early November not so bad. Wait too long and you can get hit pretty hard with one of those Canadain cold fronts.
The daytime riding is great across Texas and other southern routes, but try not to get caught out at night. Temps go down Fast! Oh, and if you travel through the hill country, DO NOT travel at night. Unless of course, you're in the market for a new deer fender ornament. Gas should be no problem. Congratulations on your anniversary. 30 years, ya'll do deserve a reward. Ride safe.

Probably not take the trailer this time. Maybe 13-24 November.

Long November Ride
Funny, we're in Las Vegas _right now_ ... it's around 80F outside.
We came from Colorado and had smooooth sailing (by SUV, not bike), but some stretches were a bit on the cool side ... lowest I saw was 38F in the evenings in the mountains. I'd think going the southern route would be fine. Note to self, if ever riding through Utah, fill up every chance you get ... gas stations are far and few between on I-70 in Utah. --Sam |

I'll let you know in a week or so. I'm leaving on Saturday to go to Pearblossum, Calif. and am taking I-10 across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. I'll be back home on November 12.

I can tell you that if you come through El Paso, Las Cruces and Tucson, the temps will be in the 50's in the higher elevations and 70's in the lower elevations, Phoenix is still in the high 70's to mid 80's in November. Vegas might be a little cooler than that. I can't speak about East of El Paso, I don't know that area.

Temps during the day get into the upper 60's/low 70's, but nights and mornings are very chilly. Bring your heated gear, and plan on a few layers. We just had a freeze north of DFW last night. Rider beware.
Congrats on your 30th! Enjoy!

Long November Ride
Thanks for all the input. I almost considered the ride by going the southern route. Sounds like the northern route may be too cold. A buddy lives in Tuscon and he said the higher passes would be too cold on a bike (but he doesn't ride). The wife is now thinking of going the opposite way starting with Key West. I don't know what there is to see or do there. Any ideas on that trip? I do like the warmer weather but I really had plans on seeing the leaf color changes somewhere. Maybe even at Arkansas but I may be to late for that trip. I need to decide soon. Ideas?
