2010 Fall Salmon Season

As many of you know....the old fishing guide in me comes out every year about this time and I have to spend a few days every Oct/Nov chasing the Chinook and Coho salmon that invade our coastal rivers with the fall rains.

Here is a photo from last Wednesday. With all the early September rain, conditions were near perfect (ie: recent high water, dropping to the perfect flow, rising barometer) for this semi-secret coastal stream, so me and a buddy b-lined it over there. We got three really nice Kings and missed two more. These were about 35 lbs. each, both nice chrome hens.

Here's a tip for you...if you're not fishing around me, you're fishing in the wrong spot...

Those are some real beauties, I used to fish the Credit River in Toronto and you could catch fish like that right in the city. Most weighed 20-25 lbs. with the odd 40lb being caught.

My favorite way to BBQ those is on cedar planks, with a bit of dill,parsley, and lemon, they are delicious done that way.

Just got my ride out of the shop (cyclebarn). That's the first ride since we rode together to Winthrop (that ended well). Got the Stobel horn (mounted to the front of the windshield). Took the baffels out of the Cobra pipes. Replaced front and rear guards. Buffed out some scratches. I'll live with the rest. I will be riding with ear plugs from now on. :-) Might have to reset the Power Comander. seams a lot richer with the baffels out. . . By the way, when Patricia gets out of the cast, we will be looking for her next ride. Insurance totaled her V-Star 1100. Might be interested in a 2006 or newer Vulcan 900 that I can fab up to look like a light weight Nomad.

Mark, glad that your bride survived a wreck on her bike.

Chris, you keep it up and I will plan a visit one of these days to fish with you. Then I just might have a need for a trailer to haul back a load of salmon.

For just sheer action....you should think about coming up during the next Humpy run (Pink Salmon). They arrive in my local river every odd year (2011 is the next run) in late August and early September....great riding weather! The run is huge and it is nothing to catch 50-75 of them on a good day. They run about 6-8 lbs and are great fighters on light trout/fly rods. The pic is one my son took when he and his buddies took my boat up for an afternoon of carnage....
