Exhaust turn down tips for OEM Exhaust/mufflers

I am planning on a long haul ride again up to Oshkosh at the end of this month. Plan on bringing the wife on this one. The issue is that i will also be towing my trailer and when I do, and she is riding pillion, she complains of horrible exhaust fumes regardless of my speed or other factors. I suspect that this is due to air turbulence between the bike and trailer. I am thinking that "turn down" tips for my OEM exhaust might at least reduce if not eliminate the problem. I saw a suggestion on "Gadgets Fix-It" page but it does not provide enough info to track down specific size or type of Valkyrie tips. Anybody out there know of a good aftermarket supplier of such an item? For photos of my set up please go to http://www.rcmedic.com/nomad.asp at the bottom of the page. Thank you for your help. :'(

Exhaust turn down tips for OEM Exhaust/mufflers

There is no source for ready-made tips for stock Nomad mufflers. Anything you do would be a custom job. The problem I have with the Valkyrie tips is their added length would cause them to scrape going in and out of driveways, etc.

The Valkyrie tips are not turn down type. I have a pair. You do need to watch the driveways...I only scraped them once in 2 years but it only take once to scratch them up. The scratches are hidden from view so not a big deal but they will rust at some point so I bought a back up pair.

Don't remember the size. It's only one screw. They slip over a sleeve I welded in the hole after debaffling.

Exhaust turn down tips for OEM Exhaust/mufflers

I have the Valkyrie tips and have only scraped them once coming out of an EXTREMELY steep driveway. I didn't trim any length off of them. Found them on Ebay for $30. Not sure if the Valkyrie tips will solve your problems though. All they do is extend the exhaust farther back and give a little bit of extra rumble to the exhaust note.

I called the local Honda dealer, asked how much for the tips, and they said $138 each?

I like the Wal-Mart tips idea. I will have to look into that. Is it necessary to debaffle in order to do this mod?

You could add them without debaffling. You would need to make a bushing to weld in or over the factory tip that sticks out and expand it to a bigger size to fit the new tip. Just use a set screw from the bottom to hold it on. When I debaffled, it opened the hole up and I welded in a sleeve in with a 3/8 bolt through the middle of it. I left the sleeve sticking out about 1 1/2" and slide the new tip over it. I cut the tips I got from Wal-Mart in half. All I wanted was the turn down and not extend them out too far. The bolt seems to create a little more back pressure and deepened the sound slightly. It's a cheap way to get turn downs but it does require some welding. I just used my mig welder to do it. You can get different size tips but I picked some that just fit inside the chrome of the factory pipes.
