Vo-mad or ?

It would appear that many that have passed the same spot where I have arrived. It is time to upgrade.

So since I'm not a fan of the "new" styling; I look for a (NOS) 08' with little or no mileage. Next a trunk would be nice. The missus would like music and I would like gages and a tach, so a fairing is in order.

A little cold weather coverage would be nice, so throw in some nice lowers. Lets see.....trunk, fairing, lowers.....paint to match.....hmmm I now have a Vo-mad.

For similar money and far less hassle I can buy a 10' Voyager and get 6-speeds, cruise and a 1700 along with the other features. If I can overcome the new styling why wouldn't I want a Voyager?

Go for it. The 1700 has the most comfortable seat of any bike that I have had in the past and also think the stock pipes sound good. I, have the 2010 Nomad and already think I should have got the Voyager I, also like the gages and tach. You are rite similar money and far less hassle.

Check our For Sale board, there were a couple 2008's available there and one may still be available.

Ring, one Nomad is being sold to buy a Voyager. I was hoping for some facts why a highly modified Nomad was better than a Voyager.

Personally, I'd take a Voyager in a heartbeat IF... there were accessories available for them other than a bunch of audio cables/adapters and IF I could stomach those saddlebags. Maybe they'll grow on me eventually.

I have ridden one and they are a nice bike. I'm just too picky.

You can only modify a pre-09 Nomad so much. Cruise control, no sweat I've got that. Fairing w/stereo? Yep, got that too. Six-speed gearbox? Uh, well.... 1700 cc's? See previous answer. One thing nice about buying a bike that comes with an audio system is that the controls are integrated into the handlebar switches - that is nice to have.

Wait a few months to see what 2011 brings. Maybe nothing, or maybe the V2K with all the above mentioned and restyled bags? Probably not, but boy would that be about the perfect bike.

I can't get over the bags! There are other features that bother me as well. But I can't say that warranty might not become a factor if other things were equal. Good luck, I trust you will make an informed decision.

For me it is. I'm 6'5" with a 35" inseam and the 08 and B4 Nomads have more leg room than the 1700s.

There's your reason.....

I don't think of mine as a Vo-mad, but an Ultra-Nomad ;-)

My 06 is a "VeeGlide" - even with all of the extras it still cost less than an Ultra - and I rode the new Voyager and mine still has more room and my short little legs don't hit the engine cases at a light!

I haven't followed the new line up a bit. What is the difference between the Voyager and the nomade? Is it just the faring and luggage box? The rest of the specs are near to identical as I see it.

Can't a 2010 be modified w/seat, backrest, risers, hiway pegs so you can "stretch out" when solo?

I agree with Jesse. The rear end looks futuristic. I want nostalgic.

After my 07 1600 was totaled, I was trying to decide which way to go. The new bike does have some nice features and a long warranty.

However, the used bike market is weak and I picked up an 06 with 2k miles, cheaper than I thought I could. There have been some nice bikes for sale on this forum lately . The new bikes arent so cheap. The 1500 and 1600 are proven machines.

ndbigfish, I did not know your bike was due for an upgrade. It looks new. If you are interested in buying new and don't mind buying in the metroplex, I can show you some steep discounts. PM me if your interested.

Best of luck. It is a tough choice. I went old style and I am glad I did. I have already put a couple of scratches in my 06 and will probably get rock dings trailering it around the country. :)

Bill,

It is time to fold in with the herd mentality and get some fuel injection. I have enjoyed my 99' very much. HDs are really out of reach financially. Victory was a thought shortly. Air cooled bikes and the south Texas heat are not a good match.

The used market in south TX has alot of 1500s, but not as many 1600s. A local dealer is offering a 10' Voyager at 14K; out the door(LTT & inspection). I thought about it heavily for several days, but I'm leaning toward a used 1500 with the same set-up as I have. I like the trim options for the 1500s and most of my current trim will transfer to a newer 1500. Maintain and repair are very manageable on the Nomad too.

Other factors are the current economy and the available time to tour any significant distances is just not currently available.
