grocery shopping on the MC

Yesterday I had to pick up a thirty pound box of chicken necks for the dogs and the local grocery had a buy 2 get 5 12-packs. But the morning was made for riding. Not a problem. Hook up the trailer and put ice in the cooler and off I went for a nice ride and only returning when I had about 100 pounds of various groceries. I am going to love that trailer. I can see now that it is one of those things you get for a specific purpose (camping) then once you have it you find lots of other uses.

No trailer here (yet), but I do use the scoot to get groceries on occasion. Like you said, some days are made for riding, and I'm not gonna let some little chore keep me from it :)

I use my bike for everything as well, a couple years ago while doing the interlock patio, I brought home a beerbox almost full of bricks to finish the job. I could feel the weight in it while driving home the couple miles. ;)

A trailer would be nice but so far I have purchased lots of things and been able to pack it in the saddlebags. Bike can handle the weight with no problem.

I grocery shop on my bike all the time, doubt that I'll ever have a trailer though.

You can get a lot of groceries in a Nomad if you arrange it right. Having a Nomad made it so that I'll never be able to have a bike without hard bags. There is just too much practicality when you can ride and haul stuff.

If I had no bags on the bike, I'd be doing a lot more car trips for small errands.

I've picked up a few items at the grocery store and put in the bags for the trip home. I once carried two 20# bags of charcoal from Sam's on my pillion seat. No sweat.

I do the same and use my bike for everything. being single, most trips to the store can be done with empty bags and my hitch haul box. but I've taken the trailer on occasion as well.

borto1990, I've been curious about your hitch box. Are you just using the receiver to attach the box? About how heavy is the box and how much weight can you put in it. Does it flex the hitch mounts at all or affect the steering due to the heavy rear load? Did you make this or is it commercially available?
Thanks,

Hi James, yea, it's just a hitch haul box. like some of the guys here putting a cooler or what ever into theirs. so basically just made a frame to bolt box to then just slide it into the receiver. my box is really light weight. it's classified as a ATV box. it's pretty thin and light weight. frame and box I'd be surprised if it was 10lbs total. the box is 32x12x12, it comes with a lid seal and is lockable. it's just as wide as the bags, with chucksters hitch, it places it just above my pipes yet lower than my license plate. Plus my trunk has run, brake and turn signals so I did't have to wire any lights onto the box. I've had it loaded with clothes on long trips. I don't go crazy with weight, or I would hook up my trailer. im guessing maybe 25-30 lbs max that I've traveled with in there and I don't even notice it. If ya need anymore info, feel free to shoot me a PM

I have been to the grocery store on the bike many times. Just recently I found out that a 12 pack of longnecks will fit in the saddlebags. Grocery shopping,I hook up the trailer and we can get everything for a week in there.

Years ago I sold a Pinto 4 speed to a guy who came and picked it up on a fairly new Goldwing. He tied it to the trunk rack with some small rope and rode away with it dripping 90w on his right bag lid.
