How I solved my hoist problem

2000 lb. engine hoist.
1200 lb rated straps.
I let it down when unattended.
Anyone see any valid problems with this?

The biggest problem that I see is that you are passing the chance to buy more equipment.

But seriously, it will work. I've seen Vulcans hanging from lifts and winches being worked on by the legends.

How I solved my hoist problem

Thats a great way of lifting the bike up. Ive have a pneumatic winch on a beam in the garage that I have used to lift the bike with.

those carports are great when you only have a one bay garage. Put stone down then indoor outdoor carpeting and run electric to it.

That would do the job just fine, but for safety's sake, I would make sure there was a way to lock it in the up position, don't want it to come down on you while working on the bike....... hydraulics have been known to leak down, or even give it up quickly.

How I solved my hoist problem

Cool comments. thanks! I have the straps around the studs that the rear highway bars bolt to and the front straps are on the highway bars. I plan to put a floor down and I have a heavy duty drop cord for electircal supply. I don't want to get too permanent with the car port as the location is temporary. That's also a good idea for bracing it once it's up. I'll need to see about blocking up the lifting arm on the jack.
Another picture just for kicks and grins

Thats a great lift idea. Terrific safety tip also. The brace can be a simple u-shaped piece of metal the length of the extended ram. Drill holes top & bottom to fit a pin through and it's safe. Have a look at how a small skid-steer or tractor bucket ram is secured in the upright postion for a clearer explination.
