Oil Filler Cap??

How the heck do I get this thing off? I don't have any hardcore flat blades, I guess I need to run to Sears real quick. Is there a special tool for this? If there is it should be in the darn tool kit.

Many just use a large washer and some vise grips.

And don't tighten it much when you replace it, the same goes especially true for the oil filters. Just barely hand tight is enough. They seem to tighten themselves pretty good over time.

A quarter and a adjustable wrench work well.

Thanks, I tried a quarter and washers and they all would bend...picked up on of the big flat blades from Sears and that knocked it out.

Chuckster makes a tool for it.
Chuckster makes a tool that is machined to fit the slot so it doesn't damage the filler cap.

Oil Filler Cap??

I keep a silver dollar handy and it work just great. Don't over tighten and like Ring says especially don't over tighten the oil filter. It will be a pain to try to get off the next time.

my rubber O-ring under the cap and the cap are boggered-up. I wonder what the stealer would charge for a new cap.

Probably more than you'd care to pay for one.

Special tool #whatever. Find a big fender washer that fits right. Get a longish bolt and 2 nuts. Sandwich the washer between the nuts on the end of the bolt. Works perfect. Get an extra washer for your tool kit. A screw driver through the hole in the washer works well too.

Nice indeed.

Figures I just come across an article talking about how royal purple is among the worst of the synthetics for bikes. I guess I'll be switching it out in 1,000 miles. :-/
