motorcycle insurance

I was just sitting here this a.m. reading threads of how some of you have the good fortune to be riding right now. as i live up here in the minnesota tundra, i started to think about how i pay for year long insurance and get to ride 6 months at best. do any of you that cant ride year around, just pay for part of a year, and what insurance co. do you have. it kind of seems unfair that im paying for 12 months and riding 6. just wondering if there is any insurance company out there that lets you suspend your insurance for the winter. thanks

I'm pretty sure Geico has that plan. Check em out. I have my car with them and looking to change the bike over to them soon.

I just insured my new Nomad through Progressive along with my wifes bike. The cost for the Nomad was $400 and with that you have to park the bike for 3 months, Dec thru Feb. I'm pretty sure that if you ride those months, you are on your own on the road. The main thing it does cover for the bike is fire and theft during those months. They may have a cheaper plan with more months of down time, try giving them a call.

My cars are all insured with State Farm, and they don't seem to want to insure bikes, their cost was almost double.

We have our bikes insured through State Farm. My bike runs $312.27 for 12 months. But we have the house, 5 vehicles and 3 motorcycle all with them.

thanks for the replies so far. i have my 07 nomad and my 78 goldwing insured thru progressive right now and am paying 358 a year . thats with 1 at fault accident. so i guess, seeing what some of you are paying, thats not so far outta line.

I have progressive too and caddman is right , the policy only covers for a limited number of months for riding purposes. I'm not sure about this, but those of you that think you are covered for the entire year, to ride, might want to check with your agent. Something reminds me that most bike policies are for a limited amount of months of riding. Good subject. Please let us know what you all find out. It would suck to have something happen THEN find out you aren't covered.

I'm with Progressive and have full coverage , including fire and theft, the year round.
$244. It is not worth the hassel of turning in the plates and going through the paper work every year so I leave it insured all year.

$272 per year for full coverage on the two bikes, 12 months, no restrictions. Allstate. (All home & auto with them)

When living in the Midwest, many years ago, partial year coverage was very commonly offered.

I have the Nomad and Meanstreak with American Family. $400 for both bikes.

Sounds like some of you guys get some pretty reasonable rates. I just received my statement and its $489.00 for 12 months of public liability and damage only. If I want fire & theft, it would be an additional $323.00. This is after shopping around and getting the insurance through a freinds son. My pal pays $740.00 a year on his 97 HD Ultra, for complete coverage, and almost everyone else I talk to at work pays $750.00 to $1000.00. Some of these guys are newer riders on 750cc Hondas but they are all in their mid 40's to mid 50's in age. My neighbours son who is 27 pays $1800.00 for a 800cc Suzuki Boulivard. Its not uncommon here for younger riders to pay over $3000.00 per year. Here we have to take 12 month policy's, as we have no choice.

I paid 381 for a 12 month policy through progressive on a brand new Nomad. That was up from 97 for my 800 Classic. This is a good reminder though, as I will see what my renewal will be.

Progressive full coverage for all 12 minths for a 2000 Nomad 1500 with a $250 deductable is $256 a yr for me.

We have everything with Farmers Ins and the Nomad costs me $300/yr for full coverage.
