Good thing that was a very small deer.

How in the world did they get the backward facing picture? Is this some kind of setup?

You have to look really close, but right at the end you can see him wave at someone on the right side of the road. I think they may have been running some sort of timed event. Maybe not a legal one, but who knows.

He's lucky it was just a deer. If he has to cross a double line in corners at that slow a speed, it could have been on coming traffic.

But the still was taken from a point in front of the rider who struck the fawn. In the video, there is clearly no one in front of him. Something stinks here.

If you click on the tab top right it says this is stage 13 of some sort of race and that the road is closed.

I think you have a point. The video looks like it's on the up and up but I think the picture was constructed. Notice the picture shows the curve right behind the rider and the video clearly shows that the rider cleared the curve by 2-3 seconds. The only other explanation is the picture was taken with an extremely long lens which would compress the distance between the bike and the curve and obscure the photographer in the video.

Nonetheless, it had to suck but could have been allot worse.
