No your not raining on my parade .. If it can be easily accessed I'll see what it has. Wander if Kawasaki would have record of it being changed by them under warranty then ( maybe dealer would know by vin ? ) Being 14yrs old and 40k miles if it made it this long then it must be a strong plastic gear lol ..

The dealer can check with Kawasaki to see if it was done under warranty. They may have done the work themselves. They should have told you about the gear as it is a '99.

Called the dealer they said it is listed under an Kawasaki warranty as being replaced in 2009. DSo that's good news. I'm assuming that's a steel gear now?
