Harley Twin Cam Defects?

http://www.jamesrussellpublishing.bi...buyharley.html

I was reading the article yesterday on the HD twin Cam. If you took this guy at his word, nobody would buy a Harley.

Scott, it's on the web so it must be true. Sure raises a question:

The article states "Those who know, don't tell. Those who don't know, don't want to know. Those who find out the hard way are broke and ashamed to admit their bike is defective."

Which one are you Scott?

All I know is I have not had, nor do I know of anyone that has had the problems he speaks about.

Only reason I bring this up is to gain more info on HD's since I am considering Buying one in the next year or so. Just don't want to invest in a money pit.

I read that article last year. He says in the same article that Metric bikes also have problems. Must be a genius. The problem was on the 99-01 twin cam 88 engine. Most have been changed out to gear driven tensioners.

The 88's had a well known issue with the twin cam's. I forget what exactly it was now, but I researched it when I was looking at getting a "new" bike last time.

This guy's posts have been on here a dozen times, and they still appear once in a while here and elsewhere.

He has had an axe to grind with HD for a long time. His posts (when read in their entirety) are classified as rants at best. He does, however, have a few good points with regard to a few design flaws HD uses continually.

However, when I talk to my close friend who works at HD corporate in Milwaukee, his response is: "The parts he speaks of are parts we (HD) state are maintenance parts that need attention on a regular schedule. When these parts fail when maintained as recommended, we, as a firm step-in to help make the situation right."

In complete, and full disclosure: I will add that when he mentions "maintenance" he is strictly referring to maintenance being performed on schedule by an authorized Harley dealer.

If you rely on this guy's opinion, you wouldn't buy an HD. However, if you read all the crap he rambles on about, you also wouldn't buy several other bikes. Apparently this guy has a problem with parts that can wear-out. (For the record, I have read every blog he has written years ago.)

This guy is documented as having a beef with HD and has intentions to cause harm to the company. Unfortunately for him, he is no more than a pimple on their ass... and according to BD... Harley is nothing but a BIG ASS.
