Half Billion $$ School in CA

They do things bigger in CA and then they want the rest of us to bail them out.

Nothing like spending a bunch of money you don't have to impress God knows who. I for one think that education is over rated, just my opinion. Teachers are over paid for the hours spent at work each day and then get the whole summer off. And a school that cost that much is just something I can't comprehend.

With 15 years of schooling, most of everything I learned was from living life and not through education. A lot of what is taught at school is never needed in life. How much use has literature been to you in your everyday life? I know it has really helped me, not. But I had to take it and that gave a useless teacher a job.

Sorry about the rambling but that is the way I feel about education. Get them out in life and they will learn what they need.

I hold no grudge against the teachers for their salary, they have tough jobs IMHO and they work under unreasonable sets of rules.

As to the school, this is another example of government excesses in California and a perfect example of why they need to go bankrupt. We must not bail out that state. Only problem is that someone in Washington will deem them "to big to fail". HEY, they have already failed!!

What do the Ca. members think? I often think about how difficult it would have been for me if I hadn't had someone pushing me to excell in school. The 3R's are our future. The building may be out of line, but I would like to hear from people in that state. Was it right or wrong?

My wife worked in the school system for over 20 years and as far as I am concerned they would be better off building cheaper schools and take the rest of the money and spend it on the the teachers. If you have teachers that are just making a living then it is hard for them to care about their jobs and we need them to care.

Wait till they graduate from that and have to work in the real world.

Again.. not to side track but why is the rest of the country responsible for Californias taste buds that drive their deficit...
I would love to drive a Lotus... fact is I cant afford one so I dont, where is that logic in our leadership?

Anybody remember the song by the Temptations "Ball of Confusion"...... amazing how on the nose it is for today.... if you get a chance listen to it.... They were predicting the Obama Era

Here's the words:

Allot Govt. funded buildings like this start out as an Architect's wet dream. If someone does not control them you get a $500,000,000.00 school. I wonder how much of it was over-runs.

Years ago when I was a County Board member I was involved in the renovation of a number of courtrooms. In a committee meeting I questioned the elaborate use of granite and suggested a more economical alternate. I was answered by the Architect that he just could not allow that change. I reminded him that other than structural issues the power of who decides what's allowable resides with the taxpayers. I gained support within the committee and we stayed under budget. Although there were some committee members that had no problem spending all the money if allowed.

So as not to paint a whole group with the same brush, I have worked with some Architects that knew how to economically build and meet or beat a budget on a Govt. funded project although they were in the minority.

According to USA Today, this school system has a 50% drop out rate!!!

I sure this will cure that.

And, how long until it all trashed with gang graffiti!!!!

I've heard that all of Ca. was part of Mexico, before becoming a state. And that is why they want a bi-lingual or "all spanish" speaking state.... So... if we took over their land and are giving them assistance with everything, why shouldn't they have the best?

Of course I'm kidding. The high school I graduated from had 262 pupils in 4 grades. That's when you know everyone, and I think you learn more.
