Sad day today... :(

The Nomad will be put in storage for the winter …
In the back of the shed she goes. She will be were the snow blower was....
The bike will be washed plus a waxing and polishing , put on lift, oil cylinders, fill gas tank, add stable & put the trickle charger on battery & Spray a light oil in pipes, plus plug them up. Then cover her up…
Well, that’s about does it...

See you in spring my faithfulll iron horse!

Cheers

Yes, it is a sad day for my northern friends when it is time to park the bike. I will just keep riding. Sometimes I freeze my butt off but I ride year round.

For very infrequent ice storms here, they put sand on the bridges and overpasses. Why do they salt the roads in the North and sand them futher South?

Welllllllllllll, that is a good question.
Actually they use a combination of salt and sand here.
The sand is mainly for traction and the salt is to melt the snow and ice. The salt stays on the road longer and continues to melt the new snow. I think :-/
The salt is really bad on vehicles. Eats the metal away. You guys in the south have much better looking older cars as ours rust and things fall off after many winters.
Of course the guys who ride Harleys are used to that as stuff falls off their bikes even in the summer. OOOpps, did I say that out loud? ;)

In Vermont they use alot of salt, but depending on the temperature and the wind and the amount of snowfall, they will use salt or sand or a combination of both. When they put sand on our roads you don't want to follow too closely or you will need a new winshield. We are a tourists and ski industry state and they usually try to keep the roads clear for the tourists that don't use snow tires. Keep the money coming. ;)

They use sand and salt mix here as well, lots of it. The municipalities are scared of getting lawsuits for icey roads so they pile it on.
It is really hard on vehicles after about ten years they get quite rusty underneath.

Hi Caper, so sorry to have made you sad...:( LOL
I hope to ride our East next yr...

Yup, a tad cold in the morning to ride her to work. It was a nice day today, so took advantage of the weather & she may hibernate.
I say to all my brother riders down south, stay safe!

LOL TOP CAT!!!!

Mine goes in storage when the weatherman says it's going to snow and stay... or the 15th of December, date where this province says ALL vehicules MUST have winter tires... and Cajun.. salt, sand and small stone WHY, we support windshield repair shops, rust teatment centers, windshield washer fluid companies, wintertire sales, and just to piss off the motorcycle riders, trauma centers.... all that sand and stone on the side of the roads when spring come around is not great for us 2-wheelers....

It depends on the precipitation, First they will spray the roads with a mix of salt and water before it starts snowing. Then it depends, they might use all salt or a mix of salt and screening ( small stones) for traction. Anyway they do it, it pisses everyone off. :(" title="" border="0"/>

+1 on what Sly said about spring time & all the sand we get from winter sanding...
"Ride up to a long curve....then, right in the middle, SAND!!!!!!!!"
But for now, we are in November...

Stay safe!
Cheers
