Gas Fill Up!

I have been in and out a lot as of late. In the doing i have seen riders sitting on their bike to fill them up with GAS.

DO NOT DO THAT! DO NOT sit on the bike with the side stand UP and fill up gas tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there is a spill, yer gonna need new pants and you are a walking hazard. That gas will burn your skin too!

Then if there is any other accident, what ever fuel is in the tank becomes another hazard, and if you get trapped under the bike things won't be any fun at ALL.....

Don't ever fill up sitting on the bike EVER!

You get less fuel holding the bike up straight too!

Gas Fill Up!

I've sat on my bike to fill up when I have been in a situation where there are a lot of bikes lined up for gas, to save time. But I always put the sidestand down and lean it over. I don't particularly like doing it that way, but I've done it.

Oh, and don't forget to close your gas cap before you stand it up straight. I, I, I think I must have read that somewhere. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Oh yeah, and don't pull away from the pumps onto the road with the cap open either. Somebody told me that. :-[

Gas Fill Up!

On the lighter side, if you sit on your testicles, the reaction could result in gas being sprayed all over everybody and everything.

Gas Fill Up!

I know. My mind's in the gutter. Seriously, I totally agree with being off the bike to gas up. I have never, ever considered doing anything ,but being off the bike. I have seen folks doing it, and have doubted their sanity, but I never have.

Well I figure it's newbies, who don't know any better. They don't know clothing soaked in gas is a bad thing, even if you don't fry. They don't know soaked clothing will burn their skin.

I think, some think they can get MORE gas in the tank up right too.. They don't.

I have two words for you: "tightie whities". I guess we must have a commando in our midst.

Gas Fill Up!

It doesn't take much to generate a little static electricity. Next thing you know there is a small spark and serious fire. Makes no sense to me why anyone would stay on their bike when fueling.

Gas Fill Up!

Probably the same mentality that smokes while they are fueling. If they are going to blow themselves up, do it when I'm not around. Cell phones are another no-no when fueling.

Gas Fill Up!

Usually when I fill up my butt needs a rest so I am definitely off the bike. Good tip Mac.

One of the cardinal rules when refueling a boat is to maintain contact between the filler nozzle and the fill pipe before and during filling to lesson the chance of static build up. it's a good thing to remember when filling any vehicle as well.

That being said, I think one of the reasons you see people just sitting on their bikes to fill is the pay at the pump feature at many stations.
