Turn off, turn on your Nomad without your key.....

I was riding with Pirateer, coon and others this afternoon. While we were gearing up to leave, I reached into my pocket for my key to the bike when Pirateer came up and showed me a way to turn off my Nomad and then turn the ignition back on without the key.

After using your key to turn your ignition on, if you want to turn it off at a stop, turn the ignition knob slowly to the left until the ignition cuts off. This way the knob doesn't go all the way to the left and lock. Then when your ready to go, slightly turn the knob to the right and the ignition will come back on. All of this without getting your key out of your pocket all the time.

The only draw back is you probably want to lock your knob all the way to the left when you stop for a while like at a restaurant, store, etc.

Thanks to Pirateer for this suggestion. I think he got it from Cowboy originally. There may be some of you that have already been doing this, but I never knew that the Nomad ignition could be slightly turned left and cut off the electronics.

I thought everyone knew that Trip? Just don't turn it all the way to the left and "clicks".

My ignition switch is on the side and requires the key. :( Not sure I want to hassle with Gadget's switch relocation mod.

Thats something like the old early 60s chevys. If you didn't turn it all the way to lock you didn't need the key to restart it.

Alright....sounds fair enough BD and Doc....but if you guys have been doing this for a while why didn't you let the rest of us in on it....LOL.

I've always been under the assumption that the electrics only cut completely off when you click the knob all the way to the left....not so. This really comes in handy when I'm fueling or stopping on the side of the road.

Looks like it only works with the ignition of 05's on up. Oldbiker, you and Kawgirl are gonna hafta get a new Nomad....LOL.

Tried it this morning and it worked great. Thanks for the tip. I have a guard dog security system on the bike, so even if you turn on the power with or without a key, the bike won't start unless the dog tag is within 10 feet of the bike. I won't have to worry about someone starting it up and driving off even if the ignition is unlocked.
