:'( Ouch, that is a long way (and I don't have a trailer). Maybe the next one that is say, a lot closer.
At least you would be on one of the most comfortable rides. Omaha, Sioux City, or Sioux Falls would make a good halfway point to stop for the night so you wouldn't have to push hard.

Ah, good point, that would be an option. Thanks.

Scion0;

You can rent a trailer fairly "cheap" for a week to take your bike if you were at all interested. Get the trailer a day early and make a few modifications with "eye" bolts; and you are set to mount your bike.

If you haven't ever visited or "rode" in the Custer area, you really need to give it consideration. While I have not personally ridden there -- I have a client there saying that it is some of the best riding areas. Along with stories about the riding from others; and all the pics and web info about it -- it looks to be every bit a great place to ride.

Anyway; just trying to encourage you if possible.

I dated an italian chick whose parents came straight from Italy and this place in Deadwood was dead on for her grandma's cooking.
The locals are great for information.

Socwbiker, I have seen in other posts that members are being quoted rooms in the 80 dollar range while their site states rooms $75 - $150. It doesn't look like there is much discount.
Op: I was told that is a very good offer for such a house; however that is the regular asking price for a 3-day rental. I know that it is completely rented at present for the Sturgis Rally for a bonus-rate of $1,500 per night.

I will try to get some info from him on the local restaurant scene when I talk to him next; however I don't know that there are that many choices in Custer since it is a very small town. But who knows? We'll see what I can find out.

By the way... are you going since it is in your backyard?

So far it appears about 5 to 6 have given some sort of a serious commitment to attending the Rally. The group thus far includes: me (and wife); Ponch; OP; Kioti; Mean Streak; and PrarieCruiser.

Any others out there interested? Shout out if you are considering it.

Considering the accommodations, I think it's pretty good. It's less than $75 a day per room.

Keep us posted. I am going to ask the wife and see if she'll go. If not, may be my oldest daughter can go.

Oh yeah. Can't wait. Our wedding anniversary is the following week so we are coming for the rally and then spending a week all over the hills on the Nomad. Got us a CHEAP motel for the week down the street from the rally location. $54/night

Dont advance too fast though. WInter for me means trailer work, some paint, wheel bearings, extend the tongue. Spring means tires and rain gear. I am going to STRONGLY recommend rain gear to all. June is monsoon season here in SD. You can expect to get rained on at least twice while here for the rally. I would be amazed if it didn't. That is the only downside to having early in the season. But it is still better than our 95 degree days with high humidity.

Rain is no problem. I got the same rain gear they use on the deadliest catch. lightning on the other hand scares the sh*t out of me.

Hi there North Centralites,

Mentioned before I'd stop in once in awhile because a whole lot more of the central regions are close to me than a lot of the SW. Besides, not quite a Hooligan either. Just wanted to comment on the rally housing, no specific interest one way or the other, but in the few rallies I've been to (VROC) you miss out on a lot by not staying at the central site, evenings, early morns and doing a couple things you might not want to ride after. I know saving a few $ can be important but stack that up against how long you are going to wait and how little time there will actually be set around an really get to know each other it just might be worth a few bucks. Then again, maybe best if some of us do keep a little distance... When I went to Custer this summer the Bavarian was the least expensive of what was available with a few weeks notice but was booked up one of the nights I need so didn't stay there.

Ells; Yeah we "canned" the idea for two reasons. First because of what you said; second is SWB went through a lot of effort to secure block-rates -- thus thought we would go that route instead. So; staying "off-sight" is no longer an option. The cabin got rented immediately -- so my client isn't out a nickel either.

Thanks for touching base though.

The idea of staying at the central location is good. Had my reservations before the Bavarian was decided though. We are also staying throught the following Tuesday so it worked out well for us. Is anyone else staying longer than the rally?
