Hey Greg- thanks for your helpful info. Looks like you came up with similar time frames :) and you know we'll have to make several stops.
On I-90 are you talking about the road construction they're doing?
When we returned last year from Prairie du Chien we took the I-90 "slab" route and noticed the whole eastbound lane was being worked on! Westbound wasn't being worked on yet so it was smooth cruising home. Just for time consideration we're thinking of I-90.

I bit the bullet and ordered the V&H Bagger Duals w/slash down tips ($479.41 w/free shipping)

From what I could determine from research, the Cobra True Duals w/slash down tips had permanent baffles and I wanted the option of changing them if I wanted. They were almost $10.00 cheaper though.

Bluekaw: Yes, the spikes on the grips are certainly due to a second or third childhood. I admit it.
Gibby: You sure have a beautiful bike. What year?
Ponch: Have you seen the documentary titled "Long Way Round" where two friends ride BMW's around the world? The segment about riding through Mongolia was really something.

It sure is going to be great to see everyone again. I'll have to bring my drink holder, Cal! I got a PM from Rayski. He's going to meet us at the Best Western, Normal, IL on June 10th. Then we'll all meet up there on the 11th when Greg and others come through in the morning hours. BnG

I wasn't thinking of that area, but do remember it now that you mentioned it. I think they have been working on that lane for two years now.

The areas that make me nervous are:

Going by the Wisconsin Dells (Every tourist from you know where is driving nuts there.)

Going around Madison, Wisconsin (For some reason people drive nuts in that areas and there are 3-4 lanes going at once in some places with people criss-crossing lanes like idiots. Be very careful going through there.)

Going around Janesville, WI, and Beloit, WI up to where you get off I-90 (This is a four-lane highway that is tight with curves, exits every mile, semi-trucks, and just plain idiots in this area. Drive very carefully through here.)

Those are the areas that make me nervous. I have seen some unfortunate situations in each of these. Just go with the traffic, and pay attention from all directions and you should be just fine. ;)

It's a documentary. I think it was filmed in 2004. I have been watching it on the Current-196 channel. I subscribe to DishNet. It is shown in segments, I think there are 5 or 6. It is spelled "Long Way Round". It is real interesting for any biker, especially for a Beemer rider.

BNG- You will really like the pipes the exact same ones I have on my bike, although my cost was a lot less- FREE- I used to be employed at a metal shop where they manufacture the V & H. My golfing friend is plant manager & he knew I had wanted some for my bike so during set up he had some made for the Nomad. I came home one day & box sitting on porch with note. "Install these, bring bike to shop every 2,000 miles for Dyno testing" I did & I do. I was not even employed there at the time nor am I now. If I were I would have a great business out of the tailgate of my truck LOL The removal of baffles is very easy as long as you don't scrape the pipes, the screw heads get roughed up also when scraping.

I've got a sharp dip in the street gutter as I exit my driveway. I've scraped the speedsters twice on the cement and I hated it. Didn't do much damage, but it sure sounded awful. I'll have to get a few bags of cement and level it out a bit. I'm looking forward to getting the new V&H's. You were very fortunate to get your V&H's Bluekaw. Good for you. See you on June 11th!!!

After I welded four baffles in each baffle tube, it toned down the harshness quite a bit. I don't think they are any louder than the Speedsters that were on it. I really like the looks as the bike is more balanced out now. BnG
