'00 nomad 1500 wont go into 1st after clutch change

I recently changed clutches on my bike steals and friction plates and Spring now shift lever will not click into first or it did, but it was very hard too ..very hard,,now I can't get it to do it at all.

So it has not been driven since you replaced the clutch or was it okay for a while and now does not work ?
