Dammit I just bought the extended warranty. Can it be upgraded to this new thing to include tires and maintenance or am I out if luck?!

Don't feel cheated. Take another read. Looks like these are add-ons. Note it says additional offerings - that means they'll offer it to you if you will offer to pay for it. :)

I read everything twice and went through all the steps on Kawi website and don't see any specific details as to what exactly can be covered and the cost. Entered my Vin and it shows me the cost to extend for 12,24,36 or 48 months but no word on what will be covered or how it is different from my existing warranty. Piss poor effort on advertising their new warranty and explaining it to their customers.

It looks similar to the warranties Harley offers, with the tire and wheel coverage.

As usual, Kaw won't do a very good job of marketing the extended service plan. I already see complaints here.

A lot of dealers are getting into the service plans. GOAZ tries to sell one with every bike. I doubt it's worth it in those cases.

I wish they'd stop calling these thing warranties. They're not. They are insurance policy.

A warranty is an implied guarantee from the manufacture.

Plus they are nothing but cash cows for who ever issues them.

Personally, I will never buy one on anything.

Dave..I would normally agree on this but some guys are picking up 3 year extension for $4-500 with unlimited miles. Seems like a fair deal especially on the tail end.

You may regret that statement.

If you can't add it to your existing policy check your states laws on Extended Service Contract. In Texas all of them must be transferable (for a fee) and cancelable. If cancelled they prorate the rebate, subtracting the cost for the time the ESC was in effect and any claims paid out. If you bought a 48 month policy for $960 and cancelled it after 1 month you would receive a $940. It's unlikely you would have had a claim on the ESC in 30 days. Keep in mind if ESCAPED was included in the deal and financed the rebate will go to the finance company.

I called Kawasaki yesterday about this as I just purchased the extended warranty before they changed it. I was told that the only thing that changed (for free and as an addition) was the roadside assistance. The tire and maintenance would cost extra. They ended up giving me a 1 year membership to ROK so that roadside assistance would be included.

Don't know anymore details at this time

Pricing at kpp.kawasaki.com is based on model/year. I plugged in a generic 09 Nomad and got these options. When using your VIN it gives a more specific pricing.

PRICING OPTIONS
Term Price
12 Months $517.00
24 Months $605.00
36 Months $726.00 48 Months $847.00

using my VIN (currently under extended warranty expiring Jul 2016) I got
12 Months $510.40
24 Months $594.00

As for warranty vs. insurance you're right in most cases. However, I would say that when I bought the Kawasaki Good Times Protection Plan (GTPP) it truly was an extension of the original 2 year warranty.

On the cash cow matter, that's the general conception, but the reality is that a relatively small portion is actually retained after administration and all claims are paid.

When it comes to extended warranties, mechanical breakdown plans or insurance in general, it all depends on how big a gambler you are. The policies have no value whatsoever (except for peace of mind) until the day you need to make a claim. And then you'll probably be pretty happy that you have it.

BTW, I make my living in the "extended warranty" & insurance business so my perspective may be a little slanted.
