Ultimate Seat Question

I read that a few members have an Ultimate Seat. Now that you've had it a while, does it still satisfy you?? I can't find another aftermarket brand that has a two piece seat for the 1700 Nomad. I ride mostly solo. My wife has no problem with the stock seat so I want to just buy the rider seat. Thanks!

Ultimate Seat Question

I don't have an Ultimate Seat but I do have a Russell Day Long Seat on my 2011 Voyager. I also had one on my 2008 Nomad. Saying that, they will do just the drivers seat. You do not have to send them the passenger seat if it is to your liking. I will never have another bike without the Russell Seat. I even talked my wife into one for her Can Am Spyder and she is very happy with it also.

I have the Ultimate Seat, Rider, Passenger and Backrest. Definitely more comfortable than the stock seat. I ride a lot 2 up and the better half likes it over stock as well. I'm vertically challenged (29 inch inseam) and the seat did raise me up about an inch and back some over the stock seat. Puts me on my toes which I do not like. Their website indicates stock seating position but that was not the case for me. I contacted them to see if it could be lowered and they said it couldn't. I find if I ride any distance I need the backrest or I tend to slump over and this has caused issues with my lower back. If the vertically challenged part isn't an issue it's worth checking out.

Thanks Frank. The hight change won't be a problem. Sitting back a bit is a bonus. At $315, the Ultimite is a good price. I have a back rest and love it. If my wife changes her mind (again), I'll order the passenger seat for her.

I have both the ultimate seat and daylong seat for my Nomad. Front only. The daylong is more comfortable for long rides but is hard to flatfoot. I have 30 inch inseam. The ultimate is easy to flatfoot for me. And is good for maybe 150-200 mile day for me. Ive gone 425 mile day on the daylong and still felt better. I use the ultimate for comuteing to work and short weekend rides. I have the stock seat also and can't tell much differance between them when it comes to hieght but the ultimate is back alittle, and way more comfortable then stock. Stock kills my jewels.

Thanks JP. I have a few 500 mile plus days on that stock seat. I know what your saying about the jewels. How much for the RDL rider seat? I just installed a Reckless Fairing with the works so money is tight.

Thomas...here is a link to the Day Long Russel seat website. They don't list the 1700 so you should contact them about the price. I know they have done many as some of our members did a group buy a few months ago. If you just get the front seat done it starts at $395 (for a 1600) then you can go up if you add options (leather, studs, etc). All the info is there depending on the configuration. Don't forget you will have shipping both ways. I love my DLR. I know Landman (VBA Member Bob) liked his Ultimate and my brother liked his on his VTX. I never owned an Ultimate. Good luck. I am a believer that a great seat is worth the investment.

Does the Ultamate make that much differance on the "jewels"? That is my only issue with the stock seat. Other than that, I am happy. But I would spend the $$ if the jewel issue can be corrected. Do you know what they do to correct that?

I need to say that the type of pants you wear make a big difference on the jewels. Mine killed me on the Nomad and the ST w/levi jeans. But when I wear my Tourmaster MC pants (Venture Air Pants) no problem. I suspect some of those ballroom jeans by Duluth Trading would help too.

I have a solo Ultimate seat on my "08 and love it. Not that I found the stock seat to be terribly bad, the Ultimate is just that much more comfortable.
This past weekend did over 1,000 miles with the Nomad. After 425 the first day and about 200 miles into the second day I though my butt was getting sore and all sweaty and then it struck me that I forgot to throw on my Alaskan Leathers sheepskin (which I normally do if I am going on long trips).

I'd give the Ultimate top marks.

The ultimate is better on the jewels because it is flatter. The stock is like sitting on a banana. The round back just pushes you forward.

I haven't thought about selling it. I got it last august for my trip to sturgis from WI. I spent about 450.00 on it with all the shipping. Dont know if i will ever take a long trip agian. Wives didn't like that long ride. I would have to have 300.00 includes shipping to AZ.

We went with 2 other couples. None of them liked the long ride. I could use another wife. Then i could retire while they work.
