I have a "Fusion" at C-5/C-6..in my neck...
I sat around the house for about 10 years..recieving 'therapy" and on medications..and it never got "better"..I would get up to head for the bathroom and fall over flat...about half way there !

I finally decided that if iwas going to fall over and hit my head on the wood stove or -whatever- and kill myself off....I'D GO A DIFFERENT ROUTE !

So I looked online and found this Big Assed Bike..(I had not been on a bike for aprox 30 years)...long story short...I have had some close calls due to "vertigo" early on !...but riding the bike -especially thru a series of "switch-backs" near here.. since 2005, has COMPLETELY Brought back my "equilebrium" (but not my spelling skills)

I'v been all over the country on the bike, every summer since 2006..with no problem !

...You can do it... just keep at it...and dont let the medical services folks tell you -you cant !

Glad to hear from you Trip. Even the little jaunts count. Ride safe.

Had my fusion surgery this past Monday. Surgery went well considering what he had to work with. Took right at 3 hours for a 1 1/2 hour job. I have 9 staples holding it all together from the first joint near the base of the big toenail to about 3 inches up my instep. Stainless steel plate and 6 screws holding the fused joint together. I was able to get off the pain meds Thursday night and I'm walking around pretty well without the cane. My plans were to go back to work this coming Monday but HR shot that down. Put me on STD until April 21st. That's OK. I'll catch up on everything I need to do at home and hopefully be riding in 3 months. Time will tell.

No pain meds and motivatin' on your own....that's a good start. Get all healed up and then take a few flights to distant places, just so you can drive those TSA people nuts trying to figure out why you keep settin' off the alarm. Best wishes, budy!

Geeezz Mitch, my toe hurts just reading your explanation of the operation.
Your a lot tougher than I am, good luck on the healing process.
As I told you when you had your arm operated on, follow the Dr.s orders!

lol

Mitch, I just realised I have to rethink one of my father's old axioms. "If you take the gold out of your teeth, the silver out of your hair, and the lead out of your butt, you'd be worthless." Now, I guess we'll have to add the steel out of your joints! But on the brighter side, no more steel toe shoes. Hope the laughter makes ya feel better.

Mitch,
I'm hoping STD is Short Term Disability and not the other common definition we know. If not, I gotta wonder about your HR department. Glad you are on the mend and doubly glad the technology is available to put you back together again. Heal up quick my friend.

It would have been a little weird for HR to give him the other kind. :)
