Tire tread depth

I have a 09 Nomad that I'm going on a 4000 mile trip pulling my Bunkhouse camper.I measured the rear tread depth and got about 3/32 front is good.I run Shinko 777s what kind of milage has anyone been getting out of these tires I'm probably going to change the rear but it only has about 3000 on it.

Minimum tread depth to the wear bars on MC tires is 2/32". If you are already down to 3/32" at 3000 miles, there is no way you are going to get another 4000 miles out of them.

That is exceptionally crappy wear! From what I've heard, Shrinko's wear a little better than Bridgestones and even Bridgestones usually last longer than 3000 miles (I got less than 6000 on my Voyager). What pressure are you running on the rear? Maybe 777HDs would work better for you.

If you are less worried about price and grip, you might consider changing to Michelin Commander IIs. I'm at 16,000 miles on mine and should have at least 3000 more before I hit the wear bars, but I don't like the grip. I have been considering trying 777HDs. I won't go back to Bridgestones.

180/65 is what most of us run, without any issue. Having said that, I intend to try a 180/70 next time, just for giggles, and as a bit of over-compensation for the 180/60 I have on there now... which gives me not enough ground clearance, but was all I could get in an emergency on a long tour.

I probably don't check tire pressure enough and they may get low but I thought I would get miles out of the shinko.

Low tire pressure will drastically reduce the miles you get out of a tire. Plus it's unsafe.
I check my tire pressure every Saturday morning

I put in a Michelin commander II and we will see how that does.I'm heading out on a 3500 to 4000-mile trip pulling my trailer but I will have to say it looks like a good tire.

IMHO low air pressure also leads to cupping or scalloping, particularly on the fronts. The Mich Com II's are very good tires: Maybe a they could be better on wet roads, but wear very well.

Ride safe,
Smokier

The back tire of my original 'stones' was bald at 6,019 miles. I then ran three sets of Metzeler triple 8's. Back tires went 15,741, 11,592, and 11,720 miles respectively. The first one should have been changed sooner as I ran it till it started to peel. The Metzeler's have fantastic grip, even in a driving downpour.

I'm currently running the Dunlop American Elite tires. They have a little better ride than the Metzelers and good grip as well. As of last night they have 11,492 miles on them and they're no where near the wear bars. I'm running 36psi front and 38psi rear, 4# less than the max on the tire. I physically check my tire pressures every couple of weeks but I have a tire pressure monitor also, so I constantly know where my pressures are at and I'll know if there is a problem immediately.

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps someone. Ride safe everyone!
