Cheap lay down plate mod

Wasn't real happy with the lay down plate frame I bought. Tried to customize it, still not happy with the look. Not real happy about not being able to return that now either.

So I had about an hour free time. Had a piece of flat steel in the barn and got to thinking. With the original bushings from the plate/signal mount, the steel clears the fender.

This is a mock up, so yeah, I know it's crooked. Just drilled it with the dewalt drill instead of the drill press. Once I dig out the press, I'll cut another piece, drill it and paint it. Thinking about tack welding the bolts to the back of the steel so the plate will lay level against it. I'll paint it black when it's done.

As for the bottom hole, I'm going to use that too. Appliance store was closed, but I'm going to put a rubber foot for a stove or refrigerator there. I'd like to get one about 1 1/4" in diameter. I'd cut out a bit where the plate goes across so it looks like it's kind of inset into the foot. One, it fills the hole. Two it gets the plate away from the fender more.

Thought I took a shoot further back looking at the bike. Phone says I didn't. Maybe I can get that added tomorrow.

The steel piece I used is 1x1/8.

The appliance foot I'm referring to will look something like this.

More pics. Really cheap diy mod. If you have a decent shop, pretty sure you can do a lot better job.
