Removal of the 02 Sensor - '16 Vaquero

Just got back my ECU from Ivan. Instructions say to remove/disconnect the o2 sensor from my Freedom Eagle slip-ons. If I unscrew it from the pipes and unplug the wire from the other end, what do you guys suggest I due with the open plug coming from the wire harness that stays there behind the side cover. Just cover it with electrical tape?

Also, I did not receive anything to plug up the hole in the slip-ons after removing the sensor. Should I just buy a bolt and lock washer in the same threading as the o2 sensor and screw it into the hole in the pipe?

Maybe I should just leave the sensor screwed into the pipe and just disconnect the plug at the wire harness, tie it up with a wire tire and tape the ends to prevent damage.

What do you guys think?

I'd just leave the sensor in there if it were me. If it's the same size as automotive it's an 18mm diameter metric thread, not sure of the pitch. Same as a spark plug thread I believe but I could be wrong..
As for the plug, put a bit of dielectric grease in the plug and seal it up..........Mike

Greetings,

Leave the O2 senor in the hole (or buy a plug). I put dielectric grease on the contacts of the harness, then zip tied it to the frame by the side cover, with the contacts pointing down, so as not to catch and hold water.

Ride safe,
Smokier

Has anybody just taken out the 10 amp fuse for the O2 sensor, leaving everything else intact ?
Any issues ?
Cheers, Pete.

Well after a few runs with the O2 sensor fuse pulled, I have had no worries with fuel economy, power or any other "funny" stuff. So I guess either ways fine.

Positives after being Ivanised, is the temp gauge now sits on the 2nd mark rather than the 4th. Economy is just as good as stock (20km/L open road 100kmh). No decel popping at all.
Low speed, small throttle opening maneuver's are still a bit jerky thou. Something I need to work on I guess.
Next long run I may disconnect O2 harness to compare.
Cheers, Pete.

Will be waiting for the results...... I hate having things unplugged on the bike. Who would have thought of just pulling the fuse.

Thumbs Up

Pete, You can be any age you want to be. Just let me know if I can plug my O2 sensor back in and possibly use the circuit for something important. Like LED lights under the bike.

And Just so Both of you know (Smokier and Pete) I was just told yesterday to act my age and to stop acting like a teenager. I said Thank you, and moved on.

Well after a round trip of 400+km's with the O2 sensor unplugged(no fuse), the bike has behaved no different from before.
Great mileage, grunt and still running cool.
Pete.
