the Vermont General Store

In my travels in and around the green mountain state I have stopped many times at a rural general store. You can buy a hunting or fishing license at most and you also bring your deer or turkey here to be weighed and tagged. Many have a deli and some even have pizza or other items like hot soup, steamed hot dogs and hot coffee and you can usually find what you need in a pinch. Here are some pics of just a few that I have been to.

The Barnard General Store. It is a mix of rural appeal and high-end gourmet goodies.
This is my favorite stopping place for coffee and a scone. It is a 17 mile ride by paved road from where I live, but only 10 miles, 7 of which is dirt road otherwise.

The Teago General Store in South Pomfret
This store is only about 6 miles south of where I live.

This is Messier's General Store in East Randolph, VT It is about 30 miles to the north.

This is the North Tunbridge General Store. It is about 18 miles to my north.

Yea we've got some of those in Maine too. One of my favorites is Hussey's General store in Windsor Maine. Their sign says "Everything from Wedding Dresses to Shotguns"

Nice store...nice people. Much better than dealing with the big box stores...

Customer service is second to none!

I thought maybe you would have a pic of the General Store Cindy and I stopped at just before we came back into NY State.
It's none of the ones you posted. Naturally I didn't take a pic.

These are so cool. That is something I would love to see. So many people take things for granted with the pace of daily life. These places take me back to a slower time where people will help you and care.
I noticed the one sigh said established in 1867? WOW. If those walls could talk.
I also noticed the 4x4 trucks everywhere. I guess in the winters they are NEEDED. I feel bad for these people with the gas prices now.

I really enjoy going to those old stores, you feel like youve gone back in time. If you ask for something they get it for you, not some dumb kid that says "I dont know". There isn't a whole lot of them left around here anymore.

Racinchef-
Thanks for the cool pics. If I ever get out that direction, I would definitely like to see some of them. We really don't have a lot of those types of stores around here. Our small towns are dying off, and the mom & pop stores are being replaced by Super Wal-Marts and Targets. It's sad to see, but I guess it's a sign of the times.

Last summer we were in a small Menonite town near Conneaut Lake Pa. They had an old hardware store there just like they had in the 1930's. Everything was hanging off the walls and ceilings, narrow aisles and wooden board flooring, and they carried everything from soup to nuts. I spent an hour in there just looking around.

Enjoyed the pics - brought back memories of when I was up there in Vermont doing travel nursing and would get out and adventure on the guzzi. I loved all the small general stores and towns with the busstling busy down towns...old shops...small individual bookstores, odd and ends stores, drug stores etc. I did feel like it was a time lost by big cities and supercenters.
