Bike "jumps" into gear

My Nomad has been doing something since I bought it new in May, and I thought I'd ask you all about it to see if it's a problem or if it's normal.
Whenever I take my first ride of the day, my bike will slightly "jump" forward when I shift down into first from neutral. I still have the clutch fully pulled in, and it just kind of rocks forward. The Nomad only does on the first ride of the day. Once the bike is warmed up, it doesn't do it the rest of the day. Do I need to let the bike warm up longer before I take off? It usually runs for about 45 seconds before I take off.
Is this normal, or do I have a problem? None of the bikes I've previously owned have done this. Thanks everyone.

It's normal. One thing you can do to diminish it. Before you start the engine pull the clutch lever and rock the bike back and forth. You should feel it break loose. What is causing this is "stiction" of the clutch plates. When the bike sits overnight, or for any lengthy time, the clutch plates tend to "stick" together. It's not going to hurt anything in my opinion.

Normal. Its just the way the bikes clutch seems to work, its a "wet" clutch so the oil needs to be warmed up just a bit. Don't try to start it in gear with the clutch in when its cold, that will be a surprise too.

My bike does it also and so did my Yamaha Roadstar but I don't remember the Goldwing doing it but they tell me the clutch plates stick after the bike Had been sitting for a while Hell if I started the Roadstar in gear it would try to take off while starting it.

Mine will do that also. I've just gotten into the habit of giving the clutch a couple squeezes before I put it in gear.

Normal.. Set the ft brake and be in Neutral when you start the bike. The cold oil has all the viscosity it will have on a cold start, so act like glue almost. More over after setting about all night a partial vacuum sets up between the clutch plates after squeezing out the oil, something like walking in deep mud, and getting you boots pulled off.

There is no harm in dropping into gear, to ride right away, so long as you expect the bike to jerk ahead, and don't drop the bike.

I park head in inside a barn and start the engine before i back out. Even in neutral I pull the clutch, and release it while backing out. More or less by the time I get turned to go forwards the "stiction" has diminished, so the jerk is probably there, but I don't seem to notice it.

I tend to get both feet up fast in this loose snad and gravel dooryard too, so the jerk may be hidden as I am moving forward and want to be.

Ditto. My '07 has done it since day 1.

Mine does this too for the reason mentioned above. I've had other bikes that done it too. I always let mine run for a couple minutes if it has been sitting long then after I pull the clutch in I just blip the throttle a couple times. Works for me.

I didn't really think about it with my first post on this, but I do hold the brake when I first shift into first so that it does not jump.

My '05 has done it since day 1 also. I've found that after you start the engine, if you pump the clutch 3-4 times, and as softly as you can shift into 1st, it just "twitches" a little instead of lunging.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I didn't think it was anything serious, but I guess it's one of those things that you need to find the answer to in order for the mind to be at ease.
Have a great weekend!
