What are you using for voice comm?
Looking to get some sort of voice communication for our half helmets. I don’t want to spend a million dollars but am ready to pay for some decent mid-range devices. Prefer no mic boom but that’s not a deal breaker. My buddy has Uclear and they put the mics above your brow line. He says they don’t use them much as they get a lot of wind noise. I have talked to him on the phone and it sounded great on my end though

I have the Cardo Packtalk.. have used it several times with a friend who also has a Cardo unit... it does have a boom mic.
The install on the helmet is via a clamp that slides in between shell and innards or via 3M tape... I use earbuds with half helmet and like it, speakers in Fullface moduler...both crystal clear. I have spoken to several people while riding and they are AMAZED that I am on a bike, and doing 70.... The Dynamic Mesh network is awesome - after first sync the unit remembers - so riders can ride out/into the mesh network... they are pricey though...bought mine on amazon hope that helps in some way;)

I have a Sena SMH10 setup. Pretty good if it's you and a passenger but has it's limitations when bike to bike.
Both boom mic's because of our helmet setups - open with shields. Can pick up a bit of wind noise if both parties don't have a windscreen. In a nutshell...great for rider to passenger..no so great bike to bike. As far as taking a phone call....very clear. Music is audible but a bit tinny. Connecting to other coms units very easy. Cheers, Pete.

Also use the Sena SMH 10. I have the bracket on 2 of my helmets with a Velcro mic in the full face and a boom on the 3/4 helmet. The main unit snaps on either helmet for my helmet days.
With a Clearview shield 14.5" the boom mic on my 3/4 helmet works just OK, some wind noise and spotty voice commands . The Full face is great, No one can tell I am on the bike with phone calls. Voice commands are good. All with a reasonably cheap LS2 helmet, Not the quietest helmet but adequate. My 1/2 helmet is a work in progress. LS2 Chrome . It has snap in ear pads (so they say are for cold days) but the snaps do not hold well. The speakers stick to the pads well though. Will be using the boom and not sure how well it is going to work based on the 3/4 helmet with the visor down not being totally Ideal. May have to cup my hand around it for some commands. If the FEEKING snow ever stops falling I will get some real world testing done. Sena SMH 10 , battery time is good. good sturdy clip on, older ones had the connector bend but those should be off the shelves by now. charges well 2nd gen mini usb ( the rounded elongated ones. Not the old Moto Razor triangle style) I really like the big wheel adjustments. And you can have separate volumes for calls and music. Make sure you use it or a phone call can blow out your ears almost. Pairs well with my Moto x 2nd gen. Hope this helps some.

And here. I've had to replace the battery in one of them recently, and there's newer technology available - but they've been excellent devices for quite a few years now. When mine finally give up, I'll stay with Sena.

All this talk about the senas, I thought I would Update the firmware, while waiting for the snow to arrive today. It is stuck at 90% for 20 minutes now. What do I do, Pull the plug and it Bricks or wait till the cows come home? It is the correct firmware but im getting worried. I have done this before and never an issue like this

A buddy and I just picked up the Sena 30k and handlebar remotes for an upcoming
east coast excursion . The handlebar remote makes it next to impossible to reach the Voyager's horn or aux buttons with your hands on the grip. The remote is going back for sure and the verdict will be out on the headset once I get to use it. |

Maybe 70 in DBQ but in Minneapolis they are saying rain and snow mix highs around 39, so I will stay home safe. No riding, But I work this weekend anyway.

I don't know how you are going to use half helmets without a boom mic.
But if your not going to use bike to bike like you say, I bought a set of Scala riders on eBay a few years ago. They are older technology but work for bike to bike and rider to passenger. I don't need all the other features. Again, they do have a boom mic. I don't know how your going to get around that.

Before I bought my Sena's, I went through all the reviews on the Web Bike World site. There's some well informed opinion in there, and they keep up to date with the latest gear.

I have the Scala Team set and they have worked great for me for the last 6 - 7 years. They are older tech, but we just use them for driver to passenger communication. I would not hesitate to buy Scala again as I have had zero problems with them.
