Heart jerking decision made

Liz and I have always prided ourselves about riding the Nomads everywhere we went on our vacations, rallies, etc. And we boasted that if we did not ride we did not go. Well do to my wore out body we had to make a heart jerking decision about the National Rally. We will not be riding our Nomads to the Rally, we will be trailering them. This decision saddens my heart but I guess it is time to admit to myself my limitations and do what has to be done if I want to go.

I feel really bad as I know how much Liz wanted to ride down but trying to ride two 450 mile days is just not going to happen anymore. I can barely make riding 300 miles a day and we don't have the time to do 3 days to the rally and 3 days back. So the decision is made, we will make the rally but not be happy about how we got there. I know we will enjoy being there and seeing old friends an making new ones so I hope that will off set the disapointment of not riding down.

So, Mister Hardin, it is very possible we will see you at the motel Saturday night or for breakfest Sunday morning.

I can't do what I once did either. The main thing is you will be there. Wish I could say the same. Work will force me not to be able to attend. If anyone is going to be there on Saturday or Sunday I might be able to ride up for a day and see some people. Saturday would be the best day. That would allow me time to get back and be ready for work on Monday. Anyone planning on being in Maggie Valley either Saturday or Sunday let me know.

Don't worry about trailering the bikes there, its not a big deal. At least youll be attending. We are also taking the truck down, and as much as I too would like to ride there, I'll be quite content sitting in the truck.

Jim, good decision. Isn't that the reason they make motorcycle trailers? My wife can't ride long trips and we will trailer long distances just to have a different place to ride.

Not a problem, just put a Harley sticker on your trailer

I echo what the others have said. From where I'm sitting, I think you're fortunate to go. It's killing me not being able to go at all.

Regardless of how you get there Jim, we'll be glad to see you and Miss Liz. After you get the bikes unloaded and get to riding you wont give it a second thought. See you in Maggie Valley.

Well Greg, you are either going out and putting a Harley sticker on your trailer OR fliping me off.
I'm guessing the later.

As many folks in the South Central group already know, I trailer my Nomad all over the U.S. I have taken some ribbing for it and it doesn't bother me. My favorite tease was, "that's the first Nomad I have ever seen on a trailer."

I admit, I am a fair weather guy. I am 60 years old and I ride when I want for pleasure. For me that does not include heat/cold/rain. But to each his/her own.

I know it bothers you, Jim, not to make this long run on the Nomad. I understand. But I also say your in good company now. :)

Wish I would be seeing you and Liz there, but Cheryl and I won't be making this 2,000 mile round trip. Look for you both in Antler's at Nightmare's Talimena Rally.

Jim, Don't worry about it. At least you recognize your limitations and accept them. No sense in trying to be a hero and getting to MV feeling so bad that you can't ride. I'm watching the weather closely and if it will be bad on the way up you will see another trailer parked at the MV Inn. The chance of crashing goes up substantially when riding in rain or on wet roads. I can take the ribbing. Take care and I'll see you guys up there.

Jim,
Those are among the smartest words I have ever seen written here. Make no apologies.....roll in to the rally and in the famous words of Nuke LaLoosh....."announce your presence with authority".

Too many accidents happen when people fail to recognize their limitations. Better you trailer it down and enjoy the rally than try to ride down and be miserable or worse....not make it at all. My hat is off to you and I hope you enjoy the rally as much as I would if I could make it... .

When the wife goes like to a bike rally I will trailer because she does not like to ride long distance so we both are happy I get to ride at the rally and she rides too if not I would have to go by my self so do not feel like the Lone Ranger we do what we have to do to enjoy riding when we can. I will ride to MV just across Mtn and wife has to work

Crystal and I have never attempted a ride of this length before.
By the time we get there we may be wishing we trailered it. ;)
