I Need New Key

Has anyone gotten a new key made?
Where did you get the blank? How much?
If you bought a blank, will hardware store cut it?

I left the key in the saddlebag door, when I removed the saddlebags to install my trunk. The saddlebag fell over and the key bent. Now it will not work in the ignition.

I went to the kawi dealer, paid $20 bucks for a blank, then took it to a locksmith to get it cut. Kawi dealer said don't take it to HD, Lowes or local hardware, they will just screw it up. Hope that helps

ccmjr77... I found a local locksmith who had Kawasaki type blanks and he provided 2 blanks and cut them for a smooth $7.00. They work just like factory.

Didn't your bike come with 2 keys? I realize that's not a real solution, but it would give you time to find someone who can make you a key.

I bought a blank on Ebay for $6.00-$7.00 and had it cut at the hardware store.

Yeah, I have one key that i am using. I just always kept the spare in my wallet and now I don't have that spare. No rush, it just sux that I bent the other one.

Ah, yeah I agree. Call a Kaw dealer. If they can't make you a key, they can probably turn you on to someone who can.

Oh good you have one key left... Go to the best hard ware store around, and order blanks. That might be as low as 3 bucks a copy.

But then go to a real locksmith, and take the bike too. Have more blanks than you need, as even a good smith is likey to mess up one and even maybe two.

Before he cuts anything demonstrate to him how deep the key fits each lock on the bike.

I got my blank from a Kawi dealer for $11.00 then went to 5 stores that could not cut finally I found an old hardware store and he cut it for 50 cents. If the key is just bent and not broken can't you just put it in a vice and straighten it ?

Take your bent key and flaten it out with a rubber mallet till comletely flat. Might work for a time.

I bought an extra blank from the dealer when I bought my bike. They wanted more than I was willing to pay to cut it. I took it to my local Ace Hardware. They cut it and it works perfectly. Now for the best part. They wouldn't take a dime for cutting it!

My dealer wanted $20 for a blank, but he told me to go to a locksmith that has cycle keys, if I had a key and they would make me one. I did and the locksmith cut me all I wanted for $4 each.

Aftermarket replacement key is KW14 made by Silca. Most locksmiths have them and run around 2-3.00

Local locksmith/rider had blanks. i think i payed $7.50 for two.
