Fuel Pump Whine

While in the Hill Country last week, my fuel pump started making a continuous whining noise. A few of us there listened to it and we all agree that it sounds like it is coming from the pump. Opening the gas cap made it sound much louder. I swung by my dealer today in my truck and spoke with the shop foreman and general manager about it. They told me it's not a common thing for the fuel pump to fail but to bring it by and they would listen to it and call Kawasaki about replacing the pump under warranty. It comes and goes so I will bring it by and let them replace it while I'm working. They will have to order the pump. It isn't a stock item like everything else for a Nomad. They have a very nice new Voyager there that I sat on and started getting the itch. I got off of it quick enough before doing something crazy.

I know the feeling Mitch..... I have my Triumph dealer telling me there's a 1700 on the floor with long distance saddle, backrest, fairing and floorboads....he wants me to test ride it!!

The only whining sound I hear comes from BD.

Mine started making the noise on the Custer trip last year. At first I figured it was crappy gas I picked up somewhere. Lately, I have been adding a little Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel as a desperate attempt at fixing it. As long as it pumps fuel, I'm in no hurry to replace it. They are ridiculously expensive.

Mine has been whining off and on for 4 years.

Mine has been whining for 13,000 kms. They want over $700 for a new pump here in Canada.
It can whine till it leaves me at the side of the road.

I was going to bring it this afternoon but I can't get it to whine now. Ndbigfish got me started on the Marvel Mystery Oil last week. Maybe it works. I think I'll start adding some to Darlene's coffee.

TC brought me one in Fall and things got busy with a new cement floor in the barn, and so no testing happened.. I will see if I can get some testing done soon.

1600 modle pump.

At a glance i don't think this was made to be torn into, but it might be...

Just finished a 1600 mile trip to Big Bend and a couple of time I heard a strange noise like vacuum leak but maybe it was a whine. I shut it down and restarted it and it was gone. Same thing happened a couple of other times. Now I am confused as to whether this could be the fuel pump or not.

Mitch I sure hope it will be covered under the warranty. Sounds like an expensive item. Let us know how it turns out.

Hi guys i have a 2008 nomad i have had it since new in January this year my fuel pump started to whine, I took it to the dealer and they changed it under warranty. I was leaving on the march the third to do a7500 klm ride and mechanic said he did not think the pump would last.
