I didn't. The first shop that I took it to asked me to remove them. I removed the bike from the shop.

To justify their high cost of tire replacement I had a dealer tell me it's to cover removal of the bags - I was like 'what? it's a 2 minute job I'll do it for you' - nope my only other option was to remove the whole wheel myself and bring it and the axle back for them to mount and balance the tire...and even that was a ridiculous $60 per tire. This was on top of wanting TWICE as much for the tire alone as I could buy it for online.

So I got my own tires, removed my own wheels and hired them to only mount and balance. I can still remember the smarmy little pukes face when I handed him thee rims, acting like I had just handed him a bag of dog shit, and listened to him whine about never doing it again unless I bought the tires from them. Fu¢k that shit - the kicker was $120 cash later and after both wheels were remounted (by me) the front wheel could not be ridden over 80mph without hopping like a jackrabbit - was never balanced worth a crap. Never went back there thank you. That was 2 years ago, they're out of business now. Yeah.

What?
It takes like 5 min. to remove them.
Why would you not remove them before going to the shop?
That way you know they are not going to be scratched or dropped or worse.

It takes less than 5 minutes to get them off.

If I pay to have my tires replaced I don't expect to do any work on the bike and I expect them to have insurance that will cover the cost if the bags get damaged. No more little shops for me. At least at the dealerships I get what I pay for.

Got to agree there, I have a good place for tires but never leave the bags on. I prefer to know that they are treated with care and besides I have lights on the bags with the quick disconnects hidden under the seat so more reason to not complicate things.

That is a good price.
I have a dealer who treats me very good and I always give him a chance to come close to the price of things I can get online.
He doesn't have to be cheaper but just close, I like having a shop to go to and don't want them to close.

Norm, I have extra lights on my bags also with quick disconnects and don't want problems.

HwyRider, If the shop screws up your bags even if they have insurance to cover it is it worth the hassle when you could just remove the bags in less than 5 min? Not to me it isn't. But to each their own.

I don't have to think about money so I would rather just pay.

Retired and don't have to think about money, I love it

I'm kinda in the same situation, I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing than learn to do it myself and screw it up

I know how to change and balance tires. I use to remove and mount my own tires and bags when I had the Gold Wing. I only put the tires on backwards once.

Wow, that's a great price! I recently had a front tire mounted. I called all the local dealerships and asked if I brought in the wheel what they'd charge for just a mount. Not balancing. The cheapest I could find was $45. Most were $50-$60. I ended up taking it to a mom and pop tire shop and had them do it. If you pull the rotors there is no reason any tire shop can't mount them. The mom and pop shot charged me $10 and were happy to have my business.
