Has anyone done apes on their Vaq ?

I've seen 12" apes for sale that claim you don't have to change out the lines and cables . I miss the comfort of my Nomad because the bars I have on them keep my hands , wrists and forearms in line . Something I'd like to do during the winter months .

Any information or recommendations would be great !!

Thanks in advance !!

I think you can get away with out changing anything, I do recall reading that the brake line needs to be re routed or adjusted. I have baron miter bars and had to adjust the clutch line but the brake was fine.

Thanks for the reply ! I did find these at roaring toys . Exact fit without having to mess with anything . You can have them set it up for internal wiring but it'll cost you . Not really looking for height but mostly hand placement .

I bought the 12" from Roaringtoys, The do indeed fit with no changes to lines, wires or cables on a 2015 vaq.

I have taken them off and sold the bike, still have the bars.

Take heed of the warning that roaring toyz has on their website on these bars. They do indeed fit with existing cables and hoses but are intended only for the short vaq windshield, any taller and the front brake lever will contact the windshield. I bought a set (I have a Voyager) and didn't pay attention to their disclaimer and some clown backed out in front of me in a parking lot, I did a full lock left turn to avoid him ( was going slow) and I went down because the brake lever contacted my windshield hard enough to activate the brake and experienced riders know that you do not grab your front brake when doing slow speed turns. I took them off that same day, can't be having that happen.

If you have the short Vaq windshield you will be fine, any taller be careful. my 2 cents....

Thanks Ace , very good advice . That is something I wasn't aware of . I do want ape's only for the comfort they provide however I'm not willing to sacrifice a windshield for them .

Great advice !!

Why not pull the bars back a little bit?

I more than agree . I've been looking at a lot of pics and most of the Vaqs have no windshield , just the visor . I've ridden my Vaq without the windshield and I must say there was a lot more buffeting that I can handle .

I'd still be willing to try the apes with the windshield , as Monkeyman said by pulling the bars back . But it's a pretty expensive gamble if it doesn't work out .

I tried pulling them back but the angles get real funky as they are designed to be forward to get proper wrist angle.

Plus you would have to move them way back so they don't contact, so much it's not rideable like that..

That's what I was afraid would happen . Just not worth it ! I like my windshield more than the bars . I road with 14" apes for the past 2 years and loved them . I'm just going to have to get used to the stock bars , unless I actually see a Vaq in person that proves this wrong .

Thanks for all the input Ace !!

Ride safe ...

But....I do have a clearview windshield which does lay back more compared to others, but again roaring toyz do have a disclaimer stating that the brake lever will contact a windshield that is taller than a stock vaq windshield.

I do plan on trying to redesign them in the off season so it doesn't contact or I may even order some tubing and bend up a set of my own. I usually make my own bars but I just haven't had the time.
