Changed plugs

Changed the plugs today, waste of time, 54,000 kms and other than being a bit discolored ( a nice tan shade mind you) they were like new.
Expensive little puppies, thankfully at $16 a pop there's only two. I wouldn't have bother but when i thought I was having vibration problems, I order a set and figured I might as well put them in.

Word of advise to anyone contemplating a plug change on a rig with a few years on it. Beware taking the damn cap off, I buggered mine up thinking it was loose and it wasn't, when I pulled it up.
Unfortunately the actual boot part stayed on the plug, the end with the plug wire stayed on the wire ffffffark. I cobbled it up but now I have to order a cap, never fails, mo money :-)
The outer is rubber, neoprene or something similar, inside is a hard plastic, once that breaks the thing has no strength, as I found out.
Of course no dealer has one, I've got to order it, 'nother $41 down the tube for nuttin............Mike

Just curious, was the gap still correct on the plugs you removed?

Did the same thing on my 1500 Classic, About the 33,500 Mile range and they looked just like yours. Those were standard Plugs (4). And Still gapped within specs. But after 8 years I was worried they may rust in place, only reason I changed them. So don't regret it. I didn't. Peace of mind is under rated.

Yup, if I hadn't had new ones, I would have no qualms putting them back for another 50K.

'Nother reason why I wanted to get them out. New ones I used Neversize on the threads even tho the ones I took out didn't have anything and they turned out fine.
Ended up it wasn't the plug to the head I should'a been concerned about, it was the damn rubber to the &&&&* plug...........M

That's why it's always a good idea to put neverseeze on the plug threads, and coat the plug cap inside with dielectric grease.

I ran a set for 50,000 miles on my Vaq. When I took them out I checked the gap, was EXACTLY the same as when I put them in.

The iridium tip is extremely hard and I'm bettin these plugs can prolly go 80,000 miles, if not more.

My Tundra calls for replacement at 120,000 miles to meet emission requirements. I don't have enough miles yet to do it. My brother has an identical Tundra with 185,000 miles still on the factory plugs and no check engine lights to date.

Worst of that is when the time comes to take them out I bet it's going to be a pia. I doubt there was any Neverseize put on them from the factory.
I was considering taking mine out of my '15 Frontier with only 50k on it just to never seize them. It'll probably pay of in a few years time..........................M

Sounds like good preventative maintenance, what was the grease you put on the top of the plugs (dielectric??) where do you get that? Same place?
